Our Years in Green: Ouverture Non Stop
http://ouryearsingreen.blogspot.com/2010/02/ouverture-non-stop.html
Our Years in Green. Experiences of an American family living in Ireland. Saturday, February 27, 2010. The shops in France are closed on Sunday. I should have known this. It is romantic, a balm to the consumerism of Ireland and the US. People take time off for lunch and still believe in a day of rest. A slow and easy lifestyle is what we've dreamed of for years. Then, there it was. The sign of life we'd been searching for- an InterMarche proclaiming:. So it was back to the house, which thankfully had drie...

Our Years in Green: Good Friday
http://ouryearsingreen.blogspot.com/2010/04/good-friday.html
Our Years in Green. Experiences of an American family living in Ireland. Friday, April 2, 2010. Today is Good Friday as most of you know. It's one of the few days we get off school in the States but most other places of business are open. Not so in Ireland. It's the one day of the year that all pubs, off-license (liquor stores), and any restaurant that sells alcohol of any kind is closed. It's a 'dry' Holy Day. Http:/ abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory? Is this a slippery slope? April 03, 2010.

Our Years in Green: March 2010
http://ouryearsingreen.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Our Years in Green. Experiences of an American family living in Ireland. Tuesday, March 23, 2010. Have been treating us to an evening symphony. It's been many years since I've lived far enough from people populated areas to enjoy nature's sounds. For being so quiet, it's really quite loud. I love the songs of the birds, the neighing of the horse next door, have even gotten used to Monsieur Coq and his hourly reveille and now the frogs have begun their courtship rituals. Links to this post. Kept eluding m...

Our Years in Green: December 2009
http://ouryearsingreen.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Our Years in Green. Experiences of an American family living in Ireland. Tuesday, December 29, 2009. This year was the biggest year for Santa in our house. It is as if the 7 almost 8 year old believes even more fervently than ever before in order to keep it true. Of course the kids talk in the yard. They ask questions, wondering: how could a bike really fit through the chimney…. And how does the alarm not go off when Santa creeps in…. And why does my guitar say, 'made in China'? At the top of my lungs to...

Our Years in Green: September 2010
http://ouryearsingreen.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Our Years in Green. Experiences of an American family living in Ireland. Thursday, September 16, 2010. Today is cleaning day. And to make it more fun for myself I like to turn on the music and dance like Hank Azaria in The Birdcage. Today as I swept and the Baby followed me around with the dustpan, the Chieftains. Began to play. And their resonant fiddles and Gaelic rhythm pulled me in, transported me to another place, blew sound through the tiny hollow left from leaving Ireland. But what is also true is...

Our Years in Green: January 2010
http://ouryearsingreen.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Our Years in Green. Experiences of an American family living in Ireland. Sunday, January 31, 2010. St Patrick’s Enemies. There are no snakes in Ireland. Most people know this and the story of how St Patrick ran them off the island. It is a remarkable feature, somewhat making up for the day long rain shower or grey summer day. As a girl I was most afraid of the cotton-mouth. Home from school one afternoon we encountered a fat rattlesnake sunning herself on our paving stones. She met a quick end thanks...

Our Years in Green: September 2009
http://ouryearsingreen.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Our Years in Green. Experiences of an American family living in Ireland. Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Now might be the appropriate time to mention the litter. It is a problem here and it doesn't take a genius to discover why…it is free to ditch your shite. Even better if you can cram it into someone's wheelie bin on rubbish day, or just fill up black bags and leave them next to someone's purple ones and maybe they'll get picked up too. Not a chance….mice will though. Links to this post. People flock back...

http://ouryearsingreen.blogspot.com/2010/02/new-blog.html
Our Years in Green. Experiences of an American family living in Ireland. Thursday, February 25, 2010. I've started a new blog to cover our experience here in France. If you'd like to take a look it's just up and running at conjugatingirregularverbs. I will still add posts here periodically but most will be on the new French blog. I'd like to incorporate a linked map of Ireland if anyone can give me advice on how to do it here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
