Thursday, April 20, 2006. I've been thinking about a post about the Fat Acceptance movement for a while now, because there is something that has bothered me about a lot of things associated with that movement. Reading stuff in the Big Fat Carnival makes me feel that now-familar feeling that I must be missing something, that I need to read more about it and listen more to that community, because I must just not get it. But then I read this post over at peggynature's blog. Weight is just as silly as thinki...

JeffLivesHere: Pop Culture Edition. Tuesday, April 18, 2006. Now I Have to Stop Buying Certain Comics Because They Have Become Nike Ads. I know people will say it was bound to happen, but product placement in comics. Just makes me sad. And a little angry. I'm naive, what can I say. The interesting thing is that the Wall Street Journal article points out that 'this isn't new' and it's really 'not so bad':. See, that's the thing. I think in this case, 'less overt' is worse. Friday, April 14, 2006. I've hunted and hunted for the exact quote, but I've lost my "The Myth of Sisyphus" book, so I'll just paraphrase Camus. (I mean, what's the point of being an existentialist philosopher if you don't have people misquoting and oversimplifying your points, really? He notes that it isn't people that are absurd, or the world that is absurd, but our relationship to the world that is absurd. I'm sure Camus had some deep reasons for thinking this (if he did! But the thing is this: This is.

Tuesday, June 27, 2006. Burn a Flag a Day. It's amazing that while I'm sitting here trying to (in some sense) defend the Democratic party as the lesser of two evils. That one of its leaders is still spending a good deal of her time on a flag burning amendment. Luckily you can email Feinstein from the bottom of her statment. I can't believe she's spending so much time on this crap when there are so many important things that need to be done. It's infuriating. Well, you can't argue with that! In what may b...

Wednesday, March 29, 2006. Just What I Needed, More to Think About. So my first therapy session was pretty much as expected. A few nice suprises that have nothing to do with therapy at all, really: It didn't rain when I went into SF for my appointment last night (I had some worries that if it rained a lot I'd use it as an excuse to not go). Also, it's not so far from 24th street BART, Papalote(sp? Some things that were not much of a suprise, therapy-wise:. There was a clock prominently displayed. It's we...

Sunday, March 26, 2006. I stumbled across an interview with Sharon Salzberg. Who has written some books on the subject of faith in general- from but it seems not completely limited by her own Buddhist perspective. One of the things she said struck me as particularly meaningful to my present situation, as well as a strong sense of empathy that I got when I read somthing k recently talked about in her blog. Not sure. But it does. Posted by Jeff Pollet at 7:53 PM. View my complete profile.

Not easy to do. Hopefully I'll get better, but for now.it's time-consuming and frustrating and it makes me wonder why I bother patching tubes at all and don't just buy a bunch of spares, really, because.well, there I go getting frustrated. Thursday, April 20, 2006. Best Political Poster. Ever. Posted by Jeff Pollet at 7:59 AM. Wednesday, April 19, 2006. Moving, Moving, Moving Right. I'm not in the give-up-and-move-to-Canada mindset or anything (particularly since Canada just elected the most right-wing group of people it ever has, apparently); I think that the freedoms we have still lend themselves to some truly progressive possibilities, and the backlash against Bush Jr. doesn't mean nothing at all.
