NephCure Walk Northern Virginia. Allie was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome in December 2009. Doctors were optimistic she would need six weeks of steroid treatment and a low sodium diet, and then move on living her typical, active life. Unfortunately, the steroids didn’t cure her illness; sadly, they made her much worse, causing her muscles to atrophy progressively to an extreme degree eventually resulting in the need for a wheelchair.
