A Funder's Message to Other Funders About Overhead. A Funder's Message to Other Funders About Overhead. This article is adapted from a presentation made to Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO). Our deepest thanks to Unmi Song. For speaking these truths:. Extreme Board Makeover | Blue Avocado
http://www.blueavocado.org/node/839
Despite the complaints of executive directors that their boards "need training," often the most effective way to change a board is to change the people who are on it. And sometimes, a board itself realizes it needs to change faster and more dramatically than it can by adding a couple of new folks a year. I shouldn't be on this board anymore," commented the board member of a large national organization. "My boss' boss should be on this board.". The pitch to the potential change agents: "I'm not just askin...

Succession Planning for Nonprofits of All Sizes. Succession Planning for Nonprofits of All Sizes. By Tim Wolfred and Jan Masaoka. The term "succession planning" brings to mind a large corporation with a long-time CEO first choosing, then grooming, a successor. But this practice is sharply declining even in large corporations and is even less relevant to most community-based organizations. Succession should be a topic taken up now . . . whether or not you are anticipating a change in executive...13; Does ...

The Very Good but Seriously Flawed Executive Director. The Very Good but Seriously Flawed Executive Director. No executive director has all gifts, and many are brilliant. But what about the nonprofit CEO who is terrific in some ways but whose strengths are matched with some troubling flaws as well? Sometimes there's nothing really. From Black Panther to Nonprofit CFO. From Black Panther to Nonprofit CFO. Norma, how did you wind your way towards becoming a nonprofit CFO? Well, just a week after I graduated from high school I started at Cal State Los Angeles as a physical education major with a minor in mathematics, and was working on a teaching credential.
