Sunday, May 17, 2015. Beer Tasting: Pannotia White IPA. My Pannotia White IPA. Has been on tap. For about two weeks; it seems like a great time to evaluate the beer and reconfigure it for its next iteration (and there will. Starting gravity = 1.057; final gravity = 1.012; abv = 5.9%; IBU = 50 (estimated). Hazy, light golden hue; head is tall and persistent, with a creamy appearance and off-white color. The beer has gotten slightly less hazy since the first tastes a week or two ago. Saturday, May 16, 2015.

Andy's Brewing Blog: Summer Blonde Ale

http://andybrews.blogspot.com/2014/06/summer-blonde-ale.html

Sunday, June 29, 2014. Well, those days are now at an end. The parents shipped me a Ranco temperature controller for my birthday, which regulates a fridge or freezer into appropriate fermentation temperatures. I bought a cheap 7 cubic foot chest freezer, hooked it all up, and now I'm ready to go! First up.a good, drinkable summer blonde ale. This recipe is ever-so-slightly modified from one that originally appeared in BYO. 10 lbs. 2-row pale malt. 8 oz 20° crystal malt. 1 oz Willamette hops pellets.

Andy's Brewing Blog: A Whole Mess of Kegging

http://andybrews.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-whole-mess-of-kegging.html

Thursday, May 7, 2015. A Whole Mess of Kegging. Eagle Face Oatmeal Stout, ready for kegging. It's only five weeks until AHA (American Homebrewers' Association) in San Diego, and in preparation I've been brewing. The past few weekends. In order to give everything sufficient time for conditioning, carbonation, and such, tonight was the night to keg it all. Gondwana Pale Ale 1.2. I racked the beer onto 2 ounces of Citra hops (13.2% alpha, 3.7% beta), weighted down in a bag at the bottom of the keg. To move ...

http://andybrews.blogspot.com/2015/04/eagle-face-oatmeal-stout-11.html

Sunday, April 19, 2015. Eagle Face Oatmeal Stout 1.1. In my second brew for the AHA club night, I'm revisiting my Eagle Face Oatmeal Stout. The beer recipe is pretty much unchanged, with just a touch more flaked oats to round out the body a bit. Eagle Face Oatmeal Stout. 85 lbs. 2 row malt (Great Western). 125 lbs. flaked oats. 1 lb 80° L crystal malt. 1 lb Victory malt. 075 lb. chocolate malt. 05 lb roasted barley. 05 lb rice hulls. 1 tsp Irish moss. After 60 minutes, I added 0.5 gallons of 170&#176...

Andy's Brewing Blog: April 2015

http://andybrews.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 24, 2015. Pannotia White IPA Kegged. Every once in awhile, you just know. That a particular batch is going to be good, even early on in the process. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, you can't stop thinking about how the final product is going to taste. I'm thinking my Pannotia White IPA. Just might be one of those batches. At the time of kegging, the beer was a beautiful straw color with a prominent hazy; truly a "white" IPA! Sunday, April 19, 2015. Eagle Face Oatmeal Stout 1.1.

Andy's Brewing Blog: Beer Tasting: Live Long & Porter

http://andybrews.blogspot.com/2015/05/beer-tasting-live-long-porter.html

Friday, May 8, 2015. Beer Tasting: Live Long and Porter. In mid-April, roughly two months after brewing, I did a formal tasting of Live Long and Porter. Starting gravity = 1.050; final gravity = 1.016; abv = 4.5%; estimated IBU = 30. Coffee and a hint of chocolate. Nice. Creamy, tan-colored head, very persistent. Dark brown beer with good clarity. Chocolate, coffee; some maltiness behind it. Finish a little more bitter than perhaps I like. Carbonation is good, but body is pretty weak. El Dorado Amber Ale.

Prehistoric Pub: January 2015

Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Fortune Cookie Advice.for Real. That feeling that makes you sit down and mumble to your confidant "I don't know if I can do this.". If that describes you or someone you know, have a seat at the bar. I've got some advice that I've accumulated from time, some experience of learning from dumb-ass mistakes, and some experience of learning from events that you simply can't control, and hopefully a way out of the seductive mind-traps that we all fall into. Prehistoric Pub: Lego Jurassic World!

Wednesday, June 24, 2015. The park is open and everybody is talking about Jurassic World. My family and I loved it and you can say for sure that we are definitely obsessed with the movie. I love having the feelings I did when I first saw the original film. Seeing Jurassic World. Brought back old memories and created new ones for my son Joey. Along with making a day of going to see Jurassic World. We picked up the Lego game featuring all four films! Is an epic game. That being said, my son Joey was so exc...

And then there were three. Pictures and notes from our family. Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Russell's hair is so fine and so blond that I almost feel like he doesn't have any. So, it was a hard to decide that he needed his first haircut. But I finally grew weary of him looking like a balding old man with the wispy stuff at the back of his neck and took him to get his haircut. Playing with the car:. Then the buzzers went on:. Monday, April 6, 2015. The Only Surviving Cretaceous Dinosaur Track from New Jersey. Around 1929-1930, discoveries were made of Cretaceous dinosaur tracks in New Jersey! In 1930, in the same area, a second trackway was uncovered. This time, paleontologists from Rutgers University were sent in to the site. A single footprint was removed. This one track is now the one sole survivor on display at the Rutgers Geological Museum in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Photo by Gary Vecchiarelli. Geology Go Go Bar! Resea...

Andy and Brian's Adoption Journal. Two men's journey towards creating their own family. Saturday, October 11, 2014. So a couple weeks ago, our adoption agency sent out their annual report. Being the numbers geeks that we are, Brian and I pored over all the updated statistics they sent. Nothing major has changed, but I thought it was a good opportunity to talk about what some of these items mean for us. It was nice to see this report and get a chance to mull over some numbers, since that's how Brian and I...
