Musings from Arcadia: June 2013
http://arcadiagardening.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 12, 2013. Container gardens can turn a colorless grungy patio into a pleasant space you wouldn't mind inviting guests to visit. It doesn't have to be an "outdoor kitchen" with a fancy grill and built-in fridge. Adding plants to your patio is the key. After you've lugged home all the potting soil, just remember: you don't have to dig and weed. Just plant, fertilize and water. Instant garden. With my container garden giving it life and color, my patio is becoming an appealing retreat for Su...

Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Boston Flower Show 2014. Romance in the Garden". The Flower Show wouldn't be the Flower Show without the Garden Market Place. I actually enjoyed the purely commercial part of the show the most. Amid the usual garden doodads there were many interesting products and businesses on display. Here one could find ingenious tools and hard-to-find seeds not carried by local garden centers. The garden tote bags made by the Nantucket Bagg Company. Wednesday, March 19, 2014. No doubt the c...

Musings from Arcadia: Happy St. Pat's Day
http://arcadiagardening.blogspot.com/2014/03/happy-st-pats-day.html
Monday, March 17, 2014. Happy St. Pat's Day. It's a chilly Saint Patrick's Day, and I realize that it probably wasn't a good idea to leave the house without my winter jacket. I must have been floating on last week's thaw. Garden writers feel obliged to write about shamrocks on this occasion. I know I do. However, since I am ignorant about Saint Patrick and the legend of the shamrock, I'll simply refer you to someone else's article:. Http:/ landscaping.about.com/cs/lawns/a/clover lawns.htm. My approach to...

Saturday, March 23, 2013. Images of Arcadia: Poetry and Art. Perhaps the loveliest evocation of Arcadia in English verse comes from Endymion. Arcadia was accessible to Keats through the medium of a divine-like inspiration. For others, it is linked to a lost childhood connection with the natural world. Ninety-odd years after Endymion. Arcadia appears in a similar, if humbler, rhapsodic passage in the children's classic, The Wind in the Willows. Text from www.poets.org. Saturday, March 23, 2013. Spring rar...

Musings from Arcadia
http://arcadiagardening.blogspot.com/2013/06/weve-now-had-our-first-summer-heat-wave.html
Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Well, I happen to think Heaven is a place where it's always between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit, so I really enjoyed the brisk days and chilly nights. Especially when the sun shined. Now I've been reminded that summer is upon us, and that means heading into the garden with sunhat, sunscreen, water, and a wry measure of realism. Sunday, May 26, 2013. Grubs got it: the Undoing of a PeeGee Hydrangea. Those damn Japanese beetles! I thought I would keep them out of my gardens by avoiding their favorite host plants such as tea roses and . Most of my plantings are natives or cultivars of native plants, and for a few years my fledgling garden was unmolested. And then THEY flew in. Sunday, May 26, 2013. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
