So I thought it would be fun to follow the 80-day path of Phileas Fogg and sample the cuisine along the way. Of course, it’s going to take me much longer than 80 days, that’s for sure. Around the world in 80 dinners. Saturday, 4 September 2010. The Dining Car, Hong Kong-Beijing Train. I lunched on a fine omelet, rice and soup as I watched the Chinese landscape flow by. I traveled without interruption, slept soundly in my appointed sleeping compartment and arrived in Beijing no more than 10 minutes behind schedule. The service was immaculate.
