A Spoonful of Sisters

Thursday, October 23, 2014. I had this at cousin Shirley's baby shower last year and had to have the recipe. Aunt LaDawn was nice enough to share it. The bacon in it is of course delicious and I really like the fresh green beans which I'd never added to a soup before. 1⁄4 lb bacon. 1 c diced potatoes. 1 can whole kernel corn. 1 c diced celery. 1 c sliced carrots. 1⁄4 t garlic powder. 1⁄2 c diced onion. 1 c cut green beans. 2 c half and half cream. 2 T chopped pimento (optional). 1/2 tsp. cumin. A Spoonful of Sisters: Whole Grain Oat Bran Muffins

http://www.aspoonfulofsisters.blogspot.com/2014/02/whole-grain-oat-bran-muffins.html

Monday, February 10, 2014. Whole Grain Oat Bran Muffins. AKA Muffins of deliciousness and health. And hello, why hasn't anyone slapped our wrists? It has been over a year since the last recipe post! 1 cup all-purpose flour (we traded ours for whole wheat, and it just makes it a bit more dense. Still delish! 3/4 cup uncooked old-fashioned or quick-cooking rolled oats. 1/3 cup toasted wheat germ. 2 teaspoons baking powder. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. 3/4 cup fat-free milk. A Spoonful of Sisters: Cashew Chicken

http://www.aspoonfulofsisters.blogspot.com/2014/07/cashew-chicken.html

Thursday, July 10, 2014. My sister-in-law is from Hong Kong and she's an excellent cook, so I was excited to live close to her last year to learn lots of cooking tips from her! And oyster sauce you'll find right by the soy sauce. Buy a big thing of cashews at Costco and you'll be set for a while. 1 chicken breast, cut up (marinate with 2 Tbsp. soy sauce for 10 min.). 1 medium sized red pepper, diced. 2 carrots, diced. 3 celery stalks, diced. 2/3 C cashews (not the raw ones). 1/2 Tbsp. grated ginger.

A Spoonful of Sisters: Cumin Avacado Salad

http://www.aspoonfulofsisters.blogspot.com/2014/10/cumin-avacado-salad.html

Wednesday, October 22, 2014. This recipe came from my neighbor, Susan. She's great at sharing healthy, easy recipes with me that don't require crazy ingredients. 2 tsp lemon/lime juice (to keep avocados from browning). Chopped cilantro to taste (or parsley is that's all you have). 2 Tbsp. red onion (optional). 1/2 tsp. cumin. 1/4 tsp. coarse salt. Dash of ground black pepper. A little olive oil - to taste. And how about that sweet kale salad at costco? MMM I love salad. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A Spoonful of Sisters: May 2012

http://www.aspoonfulofsisters.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 31, 2012. Pot pie. In modern America, this usually means those frozen, sodium-laden discs that - I'll admit it - taste pretty good, but offer almost nothing nutritionally beneficial. Enter a homemade, vegan pot pie! It's a little more work than your average 30-minute dinner, but it's well-worth it. This is the second variation I've made and we liked it even better than the first. The crust was awesome! The best vegan cookbook ever. 1 c whole wheat flour. 1 c all-purpose flour. Combine flour...

A Spoonful of Sisters: February 2013

http://www.aspoonfulofsisters.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Friday, February 1, 2013. Mom made this when we were down there over the holidays and it was fabulous! It's a great, quick dessert to bring when you have a function and need to feed a lot of people. So basically anything church related :). It's from that cookbook "Our Favorite Recipes" that mom gave each of us a copy from their katy 3rd ward (p. 218). Originally submitted by Alyson Felt. 1 c olive oil (I've used canola oil and it's fine). 2 c solid pack pumpkin. 2 c all-purpose flour. 2 tsp baking powder.

THE WESTON FAMILY: France Trip Day 5 - March 15

http://lindsayweston.blogspot.com/2015/07/france-trip-day-5-march-15.html

Loving Life in Alaska. Friday, July 10, 2015. France Trip Day 5 - March 15. No matter where you go in the world there are members of the church learning the same true gospel (even studying the same lessons! The city outside the walls. We were quite literally in a "tourist trap" har har ;). I'm so funny. We all loved the cemeteries. These huge headstones/shrines erected for each person. Everything was so gaudy. When Kenny used the bathroom he thought it was so funny how it was all modern and white- straig...

Loving Life in Alaska. Friday, July 10, 2015. France Trip Day 1 - March 11. We landed around 8 am on March 11. It took a lot longer than it should have to find Steph and Andrew, who landed just a few minutes different from us. We thought we could just meet at the car rental place in the airport, but failed to recognize that there would be more than 1! And can I just say that Steph and Andrew have become quite our vacation buddies! Anyone that's been to Paris will recognize all these pictures. My favorite...

THE WESTON FAMILY: Independence Day Weekend

http://lindsayweston.blogspot.com/2015/07/independence-day-weekend.html

Loving Life in Alaska. Sunday, July 5, 2015. Lol I turned off his light and told him to go back to bed! And I failed to get a family picture on that day which I really wanted. Darn it. There's always things I miss (like fireworks in a dark sky), but we're getting better at enjoying this holiday here in Alaska. Walking back home with full bags of candy. These pictures are of our new swing set! We're so grateful for daddy and how he knows how to make everything so fun. July 6, 2015 at 5:31 AM. 8220;We wome...

Loving Life in Alaska. Sunday, July 5, 2015. Campbell Creek Science Center. On Monday we had to go back into Anchorage to sign contracts and stuff with our new tenants. (What a blessing that we found some so quickly! We only missed one day of rent! We decided to head in a few hours early and go to Campbell Creek Science Center. I'm very embarrassed to admit that it was the first time we'd been there! Briggs just crawled around got filthy dirty :). When we come visit I want to go here! I also blog here.

THE WESTON FAMILY: July 2015

http://lindsayweston.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Loving Life in Alaska. Monday, July 20, 2015. I neglected to blog last Sunday because I had been working on my France posts for so many days that I didn't want to get on here anymore. But I'd like to be all caught up before we head to Utah this week for our month-long vacation! So a few things going on. Not sure what it is about the truck they all love so much but it's quite the hot commodity. He'll eat absolutely anything, and a lot of it! The swing set is still a favorite. Especially now that the h...

Loving Life in Alaska. Friday, July 10, 2015. France Trip Day 3 - March 13. We went to Montignac to visit Lascoux 2. It was awesome. I was so impressed with her skills. There were some animals and art words and methods things that I would've never known and she just did it so well. We weren't allowed to take pictures in there, but it was just a cool place to visit. Afterwards we happened upon La Roque Saint-Christophe. We had a yummy lunch (I think in Domme? Every time we'd go to anything medieval on our...

http://lindsayweston.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Loving Life in Alaska. Wednesday, May 27, 2015. A great omen for Memorial Day. By the way, I wish I could keep diapers on my daughters until they turn 15. Seriously. I get so sick of ALWAYS having to help them go potty in the trees and bushes. But I suppose there are much worse things in life. Briggs was leaning over far in his carrier to see us and so I leaned way over to make him laugh, and Kenny took a picture. I thought it was funny, and a nice change from our normal family pictures :). We made it :).

http://lindsayweston.blogspot.com/2015/07/france-trip-day-4-march-14.html

Loving Life in Alaska. Friday, July 10, 2015. France Trip Day 4 - March 14. We had a rough night's sleep. I would wake up a lot both because of jet lag and being uncomfortable. But that's okay. After breakfast we checked out of there and started driving to Carcasonne. We decided we would just stop and see what we wanted. We found a cool medieval bridge that we stopped at in Cahors. Can you see Kenny and Andrew up there? Kenny "pretending" to be worn out from the many steps and hills :). From there we con...

A Spoonful of Silly

A Spoonful of Silly. Life with our boy and our journey with adoption. Monday, May 14, 2012. Month 16 of waiting. We were wrong. And it hurt. Bad. The day of the phone call was horrible. Lots of tears and anger. Anger at the birth mom and anger at God. Total confusion of what was happening. The next few days weren't a lot better. 1 What am I asking God for? 2 What am I willing to go through for God? The size of the vision God is willing to give us is determined by the amount of pain we're willing to endure.
