Northfarthing 70/- (Scottish Ale). English Mild – take 5 →. January 3, 2014 · 7:02 pm. Overdue 2013 updates – State of the Brewery 2014. It’s been an age since my last post. Due to a new job and a pregnant wife (due any day now) I had to take a hiatus from brewing last fall and haven’t quite gotten back into it yet (hopefully this Spring). I ended pretty strong by brewing a Russian Imperial Stout and an American Barleywine, among a few other batches. I sent some subpar beers to the State Fair this year a...

Overdue 2013 updates – State of the Brewery 2014. Brew day video / Other updates →. March 4, 2014 · 10:48 am. English Mild – take 5. It’s also a category I qualified for in the MCAB competition so I figured if I liked this one I’ll use it as my entry. I spent a fair amount of time on this recipe and also got some help after trying several of another homebrewer’s Mild’s. The homebrewer in question recently won BOS at Midwinter with, you guessed it, a Mild. Mash at 152F for 60 mins. One response to “.

If you can get some Robert the Bruce (or another Scottish Ale) there is a fun and simple drinking game to play while watching Braveheart – every time someone on screen says “freedom” you raise your glass and say “Robert! 8221; and take a healthy sip, if the English are on screen you say “dirty English bastards! 8221; and drink. English Mild – take 5. April 21, 2014 · 2:20 pm. Brew day video / Other updates. I made a video when I brewed the English Mild from this post. 8211; it’s not instructional or anything, but at least shows a bit of my process. Take a look and let me know what you think. It was fun to make – I’ll probably make another at some point. Brewed an ESB that just plain did not taste right – not sure what happened or I would have done a post on that. Brew by Brew: Multigrain, 100% Brett Farmhouse Ale
http://brewbybrew.blogspot.com/2012/06/multigrain-100-brett-farmhouse-ale.html
Saturday, June 30, 2012. Multigrain, 100% Brett Farmhouse Ale. Actually, the impetus for this particular beer came several weeks ago. I had read some of Phile Markowski's Farmhouse Ales. And then found myself staring at all the raw "alternative" grains in the bulk food aisle of my local Whole Foods. Spelt. Buckwheat. Amaranth. Quinoa. I couldn't help myself, so I grabbed a few pounds of a variety of grains and headed home to research what to do with them. And then pitched the starter Monday night, giving...
Brew by Brew: Fireside Porter
http://brewbybrew.blogspot.com/2011/02/fireside-porter.html
Saturday, February 19, 2011. After listening to the BN podcast with Shea Comfort on using oak, I decided to add some oak cubes to the primary, which Shea suggested can add mouthfeel, but little oak flavor to the finished beer. Not sure what kind of effect this will actually have - or if I will be able to detect it - but I figured it was worth a try. I'm thinking this will need some time to condition in the bottles, so I'm looking at mid-March before it will be ready. Batch Size: 3.50 gal. Norwegian Table...

Friday, January 24, 2014. Snow Day Porter (aka Fireside 2.0). Frigid temperatures. Blizzard conditions. First day of the semester cancelled. All non-essential employees told to stay home. Kids' school cancelled. Home for the day and snowbound. Hmmm.what to do.what to do? I have to admit that I wish I had brewed this beer a couple months ago - it would be nice to be drinking something like this during the current " arctic outbreak. Snow Day Porter (Fireside 2.0). Batch Size: 4 gal. Estimated IBU: 49.1.
Brew by Brew: German Pils Tasting
http://brewbybrew.blogspot.com/2013/08/german-pils-tasting.html
Thursday, August 15, 2013. I'll start off by saying that this, my first official lager. Turned out great. As long as my cellar and garage temps continue to be low enough I think I will continue to brew one each winter. Now, on to the tasting. Clear, pale gold. Thick, foamy white head that persists. Looks like a Pils should. Overall mild aroma. Noble hops and characteristic Pilsner malt "Graham cracker". Crisp and dry, but not thin. Moderate carbonation. Creamy head. August 15, 2013 at 4:17 PM. I have to ...

Monday, December 16, 2013. Autumn Brown Ale Tasting. With Fall officially coming to an end, figured it was about time to post some tasting notes on my Autumn-inspired Brown Ale. It's been a busy season, with little time to brew or blog, but I'll make up for some of that in the coming months. Beautiful deep brown, with creamy tan head that slowly dissipates. Brew by Brew: Summer IPA Tasting
http://brewbybrew.blogspot.com/2013/09/summer-ipa-tasting.html
Saturday, September 28, 2013. Now that I've got the first fall seasonal beer brewed. I suppose it is past time to post some tasting notes for the IPA I brewed a back at the start of summer. Slightly hazy, orange-yellow with a thick, foamy white head. Fresh grapefruit and ripe melon. 100% hops. The Amarillo, Cascade, Citra and Motueka hops really work well together. The Motueka hops bring some non-citrusy fruitiness that adds another dimension to the aroma. September 28, 2013 at 3:08 PM. I first used Motu...

Each beer is given a Latin name in honor of an influential person from that time in Western history known as "the Age of Enlightenment". During this era there was little separation between science, art, and philosophy. I like to think that my brewing, particularly of these beers, emulates the spirit of that time. Quibbles & Tea from Bagshot Row
Quibbles and Tea from Bagshot Row. Thursday, March 1, 2018. Jim Hopper, Super Hero. We live in a time when the Harry Potter fandom is alive and well, and the fierce and salvific courage of Lily Potter, Mrs. Weasley, and so many other mothers and women in the Harry Potter world is a truth universally acknowledged. And rightfully so! But I cannot help but ask: where are the fathers? SPOILERS for Season 1 and 2*. Yet, Hopper quickly became one of my favorite heroes for that very reason. In the moment of...

The New Bagenders
By Inwai and Ololay. Based on the series by Lady Alyssa and Random Dent. Which was based on the "Lord of the Rings" books by J.R.R. Tolkein. Picture courtesy of Calima. Well, its not great. And its not long. But it's something. Hope you like it. The link is in season 4. PS I think that the spam guestbook entries are rather amusing. It makes me think of Merry and Pippin. Maybe they're the ones putting them there. It's useless, though. Inwai and I are both female. We have no use for that.
