We’ve come to New Zealand seeking a lot of things. We recognize this time is a gift, and we intend to take full advantage of it. Our first six months in the country is serving with Capernwray at Monavale Homestead. We are busy here and love it. The next six months is completely open. We’ll let you know how that goes. December 23, 2010. Our conversations and reflections and thoughts are saturated with one common theme. Gratitude. We are so very thankful for our lives, and this year and our families and our friends and every good and perfect gift God has chosen to bless us with. We celebrated this year with turkey chilli and cornbread on the porch overlooking Lake Karapiro. We ended the evening with fireworks. Not traditional, but filled with gratitude none the less. It seems almost silly to post after a full year away from this space, and yet such a memorable year documented and spent away seems to deserve some sort of closure, reflection, remembrance…something. We laugh about our hermit like tendencies all the while scheming of our next family destination. Spain, South America, Austria, anyone? Okay maybe just a farm in the hillside. Oh, the possibilities. It has been a long and challenging one, and we are looking forward to a break! Since our last update we have had many changes, including our home! Our life in the great north. Monday, April 25, 2011. It's break-up here in Alaska! It means a number of things for our family. We pack away our snow boots and get out our muck boots. The nice thing about Alaska is that you really only need two pairs of shoes:. Snow shoes and muck boots. We have 16 hours of sunlight now. The whole family needs shades. That combined with 54 degree days makes for a very soggy mess outside. Gives a certain twist to Easter egg hunts and spring training. Posted by Yukon Family.

Our life in the great north. Thursday, November 24, 2011. Rest and Be Thankful. This sign lives in New Zealand, but wouldn't you love one in a park near you? We started our day by passing out goodies to the neighbors. In -10 degree temps I might add. Balmy for us. We've just come off a week plus of -30's. We received gifts from neighbors too. Possibly my favorite part of the holidays.setting the table. Inviting a professional baker is always a good idea. Hope your day was filled with lots of down time.
