Sabbatical in Lugano, 2008. Notes and pictures from our stay in Lugano in early 2008. Of interest (perhaps) to friends and family; not intended for a wider audience. Sunday, January 27, 2008. Cycling: Lugano to Chiasso. This morning I rode to Chiasso (on the border with Italy) and back. There were lots of cyclists out again today, including large groups (on the order of 15-25), small groups (twos and threes), and individuals. Saturday, January 26, 2008. Cell phones in Switzerland. I should have brought a...

8230;not much about even less, photography optional…. Shorewood ’76…. Our Actual Reunion…. I realize it’s been quite a long time since I’ve posted and, in all honesty, continuing to write about my summer trip doesn’t seem all that promising. The trip was great, now I’m thinking of the next one. Which brings me to the topic of those darn bikes…especially this one at the moment:. For their own branded bikes quite some time ago. Mine doesn’t look anything like it did way back when. I was up there last night...

Bike stuff I use and give a thumbs-up to. Chain link: SRAM Power Link (and similar designs by other brands). Makes removing and putting on your chain a breeze (for cleaning, lubrication or even untangling it from your frame when you drop your chain and it jams in your cranks). You no longer need a chain-breaker tool. Fender (rear): Supergo Aireon MTB – inexpensive, also fits road bikes (650C and 700C) and Air Fridays. In my hydration pack instead of on the bike. Pedals: Bebop pedals have 20° of float...

Quixotic Bicycles: experiMENTAL Whip 1
http://quixoticbicycles.blogspot.com/2008/06/experimental-whip-1.html
Misadventures of an Errant Frame Builder. Tuesday, June 10, 2008. I've had a few ideas I've been meaning to try, and the delay in the cruiser tubes was the perfect opportunity to work on a play bike. Something to experiment on. Or, as the case may be, go totally experiMENTAL! Driving premise- what does it feel like to be a Clydesdale. A race class where you must be over 6' or 200lbs)riding a standard tubed bike? But what does it feel like to be, say, 75lbs bigger? And riding a "normal" bike? I even cut o...

Quixotic Bicycles: April 2008
http://quixoticbicycles.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Misadventures of an Errant Frame Builder. Monday, April 28, 2008. The lugged frame was on a bit of a hold while I waited for some shift lever bosses. Those just arrived today, and will be on the bike asap. In the meantime, I took some time to build a few tools and to do some destructive testing on a stem. Thursday, April 17, 2008. I'm a bit of a luddite, and have only relatively recently moved from a camera that works fine without a battery to a digital P&S (or POS depending on my frustration level).
