Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple | Books & Grannies
https://booksandgrannies.wordpress.com/2013/10/21/whered-you-go-bernadette-by-maria-semple
Book reviews (and some other musings). Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple. Shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2013, Maria Semple’s unconventional and entertaining novel is a story told through emails, phone transcripts, doctor’s reports and instant messaging, all linked together by Bernadette’s precocious 15-year-old daughter, Bee. This is a book you race through but which packs a lot into its 324 pages. And if nothing else, it might just convince you to take a trip to Antarctica.

Book reviews (and some other musings). Book Club #1 – Apple Tree Yard by Louise Doughty. I hosted our most recent book club, which also meant the book we were discussing was my choice from the month before. After my routine dash to Tesco 20 minutes before we were due to start, the guests arrived, ready to get their teeth stuck into the book (and the onion bhajis). Before I Go To Sleep. 8221; There is a similar incident in a disabled toilet a bit later on. Perhaps we are being overly-prudeish and a bi...

Book reviews (and some other musings). Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. I’m cheating a bit as I actually read. A while ago but it’s more than worthy of a review. Jackson Brodie fans may have been disappointed that Kate Atkinson’s latest book wasn’t another in that series. But they needn’t have worried. Life After Life. Is totally absorbing and draws you in from the very first page. You can’t wait to get back to it and you feel you feel a sense of loss when you finish it. October 7, 2013. You are comment...

Book reviews (and some other musings). Skios by Michael Frayn. Can a farce be written as a book rather than for the stage? This is the question Michael Frayn (whose. Is a brilliant theatrical farce) seeks to answer in Skios. His latest novel. In his hands, I think the answer is a qualified Yes. October 14, 2013. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Book Club # 2 – The Midwife’s Confession by Diane Chamberlain | Books & Grannies
https://booksandgrannies.wordpress.com/2013/11/13/56
Book reviews (and some other musings). Book Club # 2 – The Midwife’s Confession by Diane Chamberlain. Lucy P., who pulled out all the stops with a Halloween-themed evening complete with ghost-shaped marshmallows and pumpkin cupcakes, hosted our latest book club. Her book of choice, The Midwife’s Confession. Far too unlikely and the revelations were bordering on silly. This was not a sentiment shared by everyone, however, as some of our group felt that the twists and turns made for a pacey and excitin...

Book lover. TV addict. Tea and coffee addict. Sunday, 1 May 2016. Review: Stars of Fortune (The Guardians Triology #1). My rating: 3 of 5 stars. But then they fell from the sky, putting the fate of all worlds in danger. And now three women and three men join forces to pick up the pieces…. But Sasha and Bran are just two of the six. And they all must all work together as a ...
