Brake pad materials

http://www.brakegarage.com/organic-vs-metallic.html

Better resistance to wet condition. Heat conduction does not happen through the rotor, but through the caliper. These are the heavy duty brake pads, which you need for example in downhill or if you otherwise do long braking on heavier load. Metallic brake pads are also your choice if you ride on wet and dusty conditions (MTB, Enduro, etc). Metallic substance is heavier than organic and thus the metallic pads will last a bit longer. Metallic (sintered) brake pads. Better resistance to wet condition. Metal...

V-brakes

http://www.brakegarage.com/v-brakes.html

Since V-brakes use the side of rim as contact point, and diameter of a rim is significantly larger than brake rotor’s (in disc brake), overheating won’t usually be a problem. V-brakes have also a lighter structure than disc brakes. These brakes will also cause less stress to bikes frame than disc brakes. V-BRAKES PRESENTED BY IVANHOE CYCLES.

3

Bike hub brakes

http://www.brakegarage.com/hub-brakes.html

Hub brakes are durable and don't need to be maintained often, as there are no brake pads or cables involved. If maintenance is needed, coastal brakes can be difficult to fix. Also the ability to cope with heat is poor. In long descents you may "run out of brakes" and lubricant in the hub can burn. In case your chains brakes - you lose all brakes. When removing rear wheel, you have to remove reaction arm first (usually just one bolt, but still). DISAdvantages of Hub brakes. Advantages of Hub brakes.

4

Bike disc brakes

http://www.brakegarage.com/disc-brakes.html

High performance comes with high price. Disc brakes are, no doubt, more expensive than V-brakes or hub brakes. Good news is, that after initial investment, the brake pads won’t be that much more expensive than brake shoes for V-brakes. Disc brakes (as well as V-brakes) are predisposed to wet weather or dusty conditions. Friction between brake pads and rotor reduces when rotor is wet or covered in dust. Small bike brake issues

http://www.brakegarage.com/common-bike-brake-problems.html

A: Probably the most common problem is that your rim is buckled. Since the friction comes from contact between the brake pad and rim this creates inconsistency in braking power. If that's the case - truing the rim might help. You might also have incorrectly aligned brake pads. Brake pads are correctly aligned when 100% of the surface of brake pads touch the rim, but there is no contact to tire, as illustrated on this page (step 4). Better resistance to wet condition. In relation to cable housing anymore&...
