Malawi is coming towards the hottest part of the year and as the temperatues rise all around the city the beautiful Jacaranda trees are coming into full bloom and providing a colourful spectacle with their purple-blue flowers. the picture right is one of the Jacaranda around 'Big Brother House'. So when my houemate asked me if I wanted to join a group going down to do a bit of a walk around the Mulanje masif, I took the opportunity and said yes.

As the Toyota pulled up in monkey bay i jumped down, grabbed my bag and having paid the driver 300 kwatcha was directed towards another waiting Toyota which they said would take me to mangochi for 400 kwatcha and I could sit in the front seat! Sunday, August 28, 2011. The slopes of mulanje mountain. Having joined the Blantyre Sports and social Club last Sunday I am determined to make use of the place. membership cost 10.000 kwacha (about £40) for a month but it does have a nice balcony area where you can get food and a drink at very reasonable prices and a large outdoor swimming pool (pic right) although the water is freezing! Monday, July 25, 2011. I have had all my inoculations (typhoid, tetanus, cholera, yellow fever, rabies and hepatitis A&B) and start my anti malaria tablets next week! Packing list complete and all documentation checked and today made contact with the Mountain Club of Malawi http:/ www.mcm.org.mw/. Ready to organise some weekend walks into the country. I am informed that broadband connection in Blantyre is pretty good so hope to get some regular information and photographs up on the blog.

Sunday, September 4, 2011. The raffle tickets paid off and I won a hamper containing a couple of mugs, a nice cloth bag full of tea from Satenwa and half a kilo of local coffee. My room smells like starbucks! Which I thankfully found out after my lone walking expedition through the bush.leapard! Which you can see if you look hard (honestly!
