Leigh and Mita's Travels. Wednesday, September 16, 2009. Broken Hill - Menindee - Griffith - Temora Aviation Museum - Burke. The Paddle Steamer Providence exploded back in the late 1800’s killing all its crew; it is believed the crew were drunk and had left a Chinese labourer to tend the boiler with fatal results. First thing on Leigh’s agenda was to drop the yabby pots into the river to see if we could get a feed however two hours later when he checked the pots, zippo; oh well, it would have been ...

Leigh and Mita's Travels. Saturday, August 1, 2009. G’day one and all. After unloading all the presents, groceries plus other items that were on Sondra and Andrews shopping list we spent the next two days reacquainting ourselves with the grandchildren plus their new pet, an orphaned lamb named “Tiny” that they acquired on a recent holiday on a sheep station. The lamb now has 5 star accommodation and non stop attention from the Barry children. Eventually arriving in the lovely metropolis of Innamincka (po...

Leigh and Mita's Travels. Monday, April 20, 2009. We were collected from the Discovery Caravan Park in Kununurra mid afternoon and driven to Wyndham to join the “Matrix” for our thirteen day cruise through the Kimberley region. The “Matrix” is a 24 metre (80 foot) luxury catamaran that can accommodate twelve people in six suites. While it has a top speed of 40kph the majority of the cruise was conducted at a leisurely 18kph. Bec was our hostess for the cruise ensuring that our every need was catered for,...

Leigh and Mita's Travels. Monday, March 15, 2010. Snowy Mountains - Tasmania - Charleville Floods. Travelled via the Snowy Mountains Highway we had a brief detour into Old Adaminaby viewing the huge Lake Eucumbene and the remnants of the old town before continuing towards Cooma while enjoying the beautiful alpine scenery. Stopping briefly at Cooma to refuel we commenced the long downhill run towards the Victorian coastline and Cann River where we would make a decision about where we would be staying.

Leigh and Mita's Travels. Friday, March 11, 2005. And of course at dusk on both days we were there we made of point of sitting on the foreshore with a glass of wine watching the spectacular sunset over the bay with yachts and fishing boats at anchor in the foreground. Disappointed at not being able to safely access the Balgowan camping areas we moved onto nearby Port Victoria. Port Victoria was in its heyday the 4th largest exporting port in South Australia and in 1949 the last Australian port to hos...

Leigh and Mita's Travels. Friday, April 1, 2005. Adelaide and Barossa Valley. After our arrival in Adelaide, Leigh spent heavens knows how many hours removing all the dirt, dust, imbedded insect strikes and grime from the van and car while I busied myself with the laundry and conducted a spring clean of the van interior, that evening the thought of cooking a meal was the furtherest thing on our minds consequently it was a counter meal at a nearby pub followed by an early night. However Tuesday was a diff...

Leigh and Mita's Travels. Monday, October 10, 2005. Mungindi and Cameron Corner. Where are Mungindi and Cameron Corner? Mungindi is on the New South Wales/Queensland border about five hundred kilometres west of Brisbane. As for Cameron Corner, it's approximately one thousand three hundred kilometres west of Brisbane on the edge of the Strzelecki Desert at the junction of the New South Wales, Queensland and South Australian state borders. Ok, so now Ron knows what not to do. Arriving Cunnamulla early afte...
