How To Find Us. From Spring to Autumn (Apr-Oct) and for our winter "Frostbite Shoots", you'll find us at the Asterdale Grounds, Borrowash, Derby. Please see the red. Marker on the Google map below. As you come onto the carpark, we are usually to be found in the top right (North East) corner of the grounds. Look out for Target Bosses! During the winter months (Nov-Mar), we shoot indoors at West Park School, West Park Road, Spondon, Derby. Please see the blue. Marker on the Google map below.

If you would like to experience Target Archery to see if it is for you, then why not attend one of our Taster Sessions. We hold several throughout the year and it gives you the opportunity to try Archery in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. We hold them both indoors and out, depending on the time of year. Archery is suitable from age 8 and upwards. All participants must be physically able, as you will need the strength to use the equipment to allow you to gain the most enjoyment from the sport. Anchor Bowmen Archery Club has been in existence for over 50 years and the earliest record known are minutes of a committee meeting from 1963 held at the Roebuck Inn, Melbourne, Derbyshire. The Archery club's name came from where it originally started, at the ground adjacent to the church at Swarkestone. This is very close to the River Trent and a hermit's cave known as the Anchor Cave, which is understood to have originated from the earlier name of the church, The Anchor Church at Swarkestone Bridge.

Consistent position of drawing hand when the bow is at full draw. An archer who shoots crossbow. Protection, just above the bow handle, where the arrow passes. Flat horizontal area cut into the bow just above the bow handle. Flexing of the arrow as it passes the bow. A tall narrow cupboard for bows and arrows. Named after Roger Ascham. Tutor/Coach to the Royal Family and Author of Toxophilus 1544. Back of the Bow. Face of the bow on the opposite side to the string. Belly of the bow. Name for the target.
