Coach Dan's Blog: Journal - A Room Full of Librarians

http://coachdansblog.blogspot.com/2009/01/link-to-other-blog-httpvcsumusichistory.html

Monday, June 29, 2009. Journal - A Room Full of Librarians. This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of serving as the keynote speaker for the Kip Gamber Technology Seminar of the 2009 VCSU MSLIS Summer Institute. "Web 2.0, Lucy Liu, and You" was a fairly casual (and I hope, well received) conversation about some of the challenges (specifically Literacy, Immediacy, and Ubiquity) facing educators as they delve into the 'Brave New World' of teaching in the Blogosphere. Copies of the slides can be found here.

Coach Dan's Blog: Hello World

http://coachdansblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/hello-world.html

Monday, June 29, 2009. Well, I guess it's time to take the plunge. I'm not exactly sure where this thing will lead, but I hope to be able to use it as a repository for ideas. Coach Dan's Blog: Thought - Literacy, Anyone?

http://coachdansblog.blogspot.com/2009/06/thought-literacy-anyone.html

Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Thought - Literacy, Anyone? At a recent workshop (not the one with the librarians), I had started a conversation about how Web 2.0 has altered the concept of literacy. According to Mike Wesch’s A Vision of Students Today. Video, the students in his class read an average of 8 books annually, while reading nearly 3600 webpages and facebook profiles over the course of the same year. A recent article by B. J. Hamilton, Transforming Information Literacy for NowGen Students. I absolutel...

Coach Dan's Blog: Thought - The Discussion Board is Dead, but Was it Ever Viable?

http://coachdansblog.blogspot.com/2009/06/thought-discussion-board-is-dead-but.html

Monday, June 29, 2009. Thought - The Discussion Board is Dead, but Was it Ever Viable? It is clear to me that the Discussion Board as a crucible of learning in the online environment is as beaten as Mongo's horse. If you like, you can read a rant about it here. The question that has occurred to me recently is: was the DB experiment doomed from the start to fail under the weight of its own expectations? Countless strategies have been designed to elicit (and rubrics to measure) "quality" participation on t...

Coach Dan's Blog: Journal - One Man's Trash

http://coachdansblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/journal-one-mans-trash.html

Monday, July 6, 2009. Journal - One Man's Trash. One of the hidden benefits of working in higher education are the ‘free books’ tables located in nearly every department. Those of you who know me well know I love to read books that libraries (and departments) are culling from their collections. There’s something almost liberating about picking up an old book in a nice binding without the added pressure of a list. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
