With a name like German Chocolate Cake, you would think this dessert was cooked up in some Bavarian kitchen, but the recipe was first published in a Texas newspaper in 1958. The dessert is named after the man who invented this particular kind of sweet chocolate for Baker's Chocolate: Sam German. We no longer know the name of the original recipe writer.
