Crystal's Intrepid Travel Blog

Monday, December 28, 2009. Day two- part two. Ok, so it's been a few days since I updated the blog, so this is gonna be a quick (ish) update on what we got up to, and I might backdate later (if there's such a feature! What was really funny about the shrine expereince was that there was a wedding taking placem and the tourists were blatantly taking photos, and and actually joining the wedding guests, wiht all of their gawking! Ok, so I joind them with the happy snap taking, but from a discreet distance!

Crystal's Intrepid Travel Blog: Huzzah- I've finally finished my assignments!

http://crystalsintrepidtravelblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/huzzah-ive-finally-finished-my.html

Friday, December 18, 2009. Huzzah- I've finally finished my assignments! After taking a DIL and another study day, I finally finished my assignments on Wednesday! Am feeling a bit proud, that I managed to cram a whole summer school subject's worth of assignments in, in a few weeks, but on the downside, I think the qual was a bit shit really. Oh well! Only 2 more sleeps to go! And then opened it and ate it! No regrets, cause it was so delicious, but now we have to go back and buy a replacement! I can't wa...

Crystal's Intrepid Travel Blog: Sitting at Cairns airport-tra la la

http://crystalsintrepidtravelblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/sitting-at-cairns-airport-tra-la-la.html

Sunday, December 20, 2009. Sitting at Cairns airport-tra la la. I am currently sitting at Cairns airport, having eaten a dodgy bacon and egg toasted sandwich, waiting for our connecting flight to Japan. We arrived in Cairns at 8.10 am local time (Queensland is an hour behind NSW), and boy was it stinking hot. AT 8AM! While we're on the subject of food, Nam and I went to Everligh Markets yesterday (to pick up the rest of the presents and the Pat and Sticks) and there was a smokehouse doing pigs on a spit!

Crystal's Intrepid Travel Blog: Day Two- Shopping, shopping and more shopping

http://crystalsintrepidtravelblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/day-two-shopping-shopping-and-more.html

Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Day Two- Shopping, shopping and more shopping. So Day Two was all about the shopping! There are currrently New Year sales on in major stores at the moment, so it's a GREAT time to go to Japan girls (and guys). The chain stores here are amazing- there's Topshop, H&M, Forever 21(! Nam picked up some really cool shirts. Shibuya crossing: (I think the largest pedestrian crossing in Japan). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Crystal's Intrepid Travel Blog. Day two- part two.

Bibo Ergo Sum: Williams Brothers Scottish Midnight Sun Dark Porter Ale

http://bibo-ergo-sum.blogspot.com/2012/05/williams-brothers-scottish-midnight-sun.html

Diary of a Homebrewer. Friday, May 25, 2012. Williams Brothers Scottish Midnight Sun Dark Porter Ale. Recently, the small group of chaps who have join in on my quest to taste as much craft beer as possible have been becoming obsessed by Porters and Stouts. Occasionally Dark Ales feature, but these are often disappointing. So far, on the top of our list has been Murray's Dark Knight Porter. And Holgate's Chocolate Temptress. 5 / 5 Coasters. Incidentally, there really is nothing that distinguishes between ...

Bibo Ergo Sum: February 2010

http://bibo-ergo-sum.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Diary of a Homebrewer. Friday, February 12, 2010. Two full moons have passed since our New Years celebrations and what have I accomplished? I have conquered nations, brought vicious men to heel with an iron fist and filled my brain with the knowledge of ancients. Unfortunately this all adds up to pure bunkum when you realise it involves me sitting on my derriere fiddling with buttons and joysticks (ooeer matron! January has seen me enter a new period of determination;. Right after I finish this level.

Bibo Ergo Sum: April 2010

http://bibo-ergo-sum.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Diary of a Homebrewer. Tuesday, April 20, 2010. A Spot of Tea. The Good Doctor and myself were shocked to realise that we were married 5 years last weekend, so after the usual jokes about giving her wood. Were done (look it up) I took her on a secret treat to the Sir Stamford. In Circular Quay for High Tea. It was a great way to spend the afternoon and the Good Doctor and I left with our stomachs bulging and our hands shaking from the sugar rush. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Bibo Ergo Sum: October 2011

http://bibo-ergo-sum.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Diary of a Homebrewer. Friday, October 21, 2011. Of course when it comes to homebrew can kits, it's a whole other story (that stuff is just nasty). This is a classic wheat beer (as the name suggests) modeled after the Paulaner recipe. The total cost for ingredients came out at about 40 AUD, largely as there is only one hop variety used and I chose to go for a dried wheat beer yeast rather than a liquid one. German dark Munich malt. 4% (the recipe suggests 5.4%). 2 Read the bloody instructions you fool!

Diary of a Homebrewer. Wednesday, March 10, 2010. After 18 months of inking.the masterpiece is almost finished. It started out small but snowballed, taking on a life of its own. I woke up one day and realised that it was now halfway down my back. I cried. Just finish the damn thing! I present to you the unfinished artwork depicting the Japanese legend of the Death Stone. Bibo Ergo Sum: Victory Hop Devil Indian Pale Ale

http://bibo-ergo-sum.blogspot.com/2012/05/victory-hop-devil-indian-pale-ale.html

Diary of a Homebrewer. Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Victory Hop Devil Indian Pale Ale. The Victory Hop Devil IPA is a heavily-hopped American style Indian Pale Ale. It is described as having a dried fruit, roast grains and hoppy nose, with a dry and hoppy palate. It is guaranteed my wife will hate this. Original Gravity: 1.065 (target 1.076) Final Gravity: 1.010 (target 1.018) ABV: 7.7% (target 6.3%). All-grain with US batch sparging. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Diary of a Homebrewer. Sunday, February 5, 2012. Carnegie and Co. Stark Porter - Brewing Notes. I have never brewed a porter, or any type of stout before so I thought I would choose something unambitious for my first one. This baby should be ready for drinking in May, 3 months after pitching the yeast. The beautifully black, inky, wort; a combination of chocolate, dark and black malts. 1058 (Target 1.057). FG 1.020 (target 1.014) ABV 5.5% (target 5.5%). 23 litres (target 23 litres). Links to this post.

Bibo Ergo Sum: January 2010

http://bibo-ergo-sum.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Diary of a Homebrewer. Tuesday, January 5, 2010. New Years Eve 2009/10. The Good Doctor and myself decided that something grand should be on the cards for December 31st, 2009 as we often find ourselves bereft of decent plans, watching the fireworks on T.V. on the lounge with an unfinished martini in hand. We turned to the Victoria Room. Then dinner came, and a full spread of animals was laid out before us - veal, lamb and fish - accompanied by chats, beans and a smashing haloumi salad. By the time we fin...

Bibo Ergo Sum: Long Trail Ale

http://bibo-ergo-sum.blogspot.com/2012/03/long-trail-ale.html

Diary of a Homebrewer. Saturday, March 3, 2012. We've got an all day poker match in a couple of months so I wanted a beer that would be easy drinking and in some way, remotely match the theme. I would have preferred a lager, but it's really the wrong time of year for them, and I have no way of lagering so I settled on the recipe for Long Trail Ale. It uses 4 different hops, and a touch of Wheat DME along with British Crystal malt as the specialty grain. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Awesome Inc&#46...
