Leftovers |
https://26starrs.wordpress.com/2011/05/13/leftovers
May 13, 2011 in Baked Goods. It all started with some leftover whipped cream. Leftover whipped cream is a sad sight. Before long, it turns into a floating island of whipped cream on top of a milky puddle. Mmmm. Rewind to Sunday, grocery store day. Beautiful rhubarb in the produce section and a recipe from Gourmet Live just waiting to be tested. That’s when this happened:. Whip some cream, add some sour cream and powdered sugar, whip some more, then add a splash of sherry. It’s classic and easy and ...

Growing Obsession |

May 25, 2011 in Gardening. Spring has sprung and I could not be more obsessed. I cannot count the number of times I’ve checked to see if new seedlings have sprouted. Or how many weeds I’ve pulled (where do they come from? I’m determined to have a better crop than last year and I’ll do [almost] whatever it takes to make that happen. Pupusas, or, Why Didn’t I Take Pictures? May 24, 2011 in Main Dishes. Because I totally forgot! Seriously, I was so distracted by little feet at my feet and big feet coming home from a long day of work, that I completely neglected to take photos. I am forgetful, so this is not entirely suprising. A fresh pickled slaw, these are a winner. I used a recipe from Whats4Eats.com. But this is really just the beginning. Practice is the main ingredient that cannot be substituted. Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie.

Coconut Dream Cake |
https://26starrs.wordpress.com/2011/11/14/coconut-cake-times-two
November 14, 2011 in Baked Goods. I’m not a huge coconut fan, but my dear husband is and it’s his birthday so there you have it. I had visions of a beautiful two-layer cake with fluffy white frosting and loads of golden toasted coconut sticking out in curly spikes. Well, this is nothing like that but man alive, it’s the best darn coconut cake I’ve ever tasted. Now I’m not making any claims that this is the cake it was intended to be. Let’s face it, it looks nothing like the picture. Rockin' the Stove.

East or West, Home Is Best. The chronicle of a family transplanted. Across coasts in search of fame,. Fortune, and frivolity. Sunday, November 27, 2011. Thanksgiving with the Joneses. As you can imagine, with that kind of offering from just our family, we ended up with a pretty tasty spread – and one extensive enough to last the next two days. I think we made it out of the house toting only one of the original nine pies, and we all got to take home turkey and gravy leftovers (yum! Next we drove along the...

East or West, Home Is Best. The chronicle of a family transplanted. Across coasts in search of fame,. Fortune, and frivolity. Sunday, February 26, 2012. Work time, play time. After Thursday’s temperatures in the high 50s, we were all a bit shocked to wake up to a thick blanket of snow Friday morning. Thanks to a wonderful twist of fate, we escaped the school delays of the neighboring districts, a particular relief given a noon paper deadline for my Personality class. Sunday, February 19, 2012. We had a f...
