Life in a Devon garden. Tuesday, 26 November 2013. Fleeting low sunlight illuminated some of the last vestiges of autumn and, in one case, the promise of the spring to come. The rich buttery leaves of Cornus sangnuinea. Long-faded flowerheads of Sedum spectabile. Almost reborn in the sun. Biding its time until spring. Posted by Tim Jones. The co...

The Freerange Gardener: July 2013
http://freerangegardener.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Life in a Devon garden. Wednesday, 31 July 2013. I heard the loud and distinctive "chup! Call of Crossbills this afternoon and looked up to see a flock of 10 of these dumpy finch-like birds – equipped with slightly comical overlapping mandibles that are perfectly designed for extracting seeds from pine cones – flying high down the valley. Crossbills breed very early in the year and roam the countryside in summer and autumn, in sometimes very large flocks, seeking out fruiting conifers. Posted by Tim Jones.

The Freerange Gardener: August 2013
http://freerangegardener.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Life in a Devon garden. Friday, 30 August 2013. Plant of the Moment – No. 14 Phlox paniculata 'Eva Cullum'. 8216;Eva Cullum’ was introduced in 1978 by the revered Norfolk nurseryman Alan Bloom, who named it for his then head of retail at Bressingham Gardens and Nursery.
