sarah bell smith: I'm still alive
http://sarahbellsmith.blogspot.com/2015/03/im-still-alive.html
Well it has been a long long long time since I last posted on here. I haven't fallen off the face of the earth but things in my life have changed quite a lot. In December last year my dad became extremely sick and was expected to die. He pulled through, but it was a very long recovery process and so that took up a lot of my time. I spent a lot of time home on the farm helping out as well as just trying to keep up at work whilst knowing what dad was going through. Posted by Sarah Bell Smith. Hi Sarah, goo...

Collecting cosmos plant seeds. I've just finished dead heading all of my cosmos and was trying to collect the seeds. Initially i was cutting the heads off one by one- a very lengthy process. This is one of my pink cosmos. I then decided to cut off larger sections of the plant and put them upside down in a bucket instead. This way all the seeds will fall out of the flower heads as they dry, rather than cutting off each individual head. Posted by Sarah Bell Smith. Links to this post. Links to this post.

Another drawing for exhibition X. Here is another drawing based on a paper wasp nest that I drew to give me some ideas for my Exhibition X work. I've actually been learning lots about paper wasp nests and bird nests while doing some research. I'll post some of the really cool things I've found out another day. Posted by Sarah Bell Smith. The joy of stickers. I took these photos the other week and had forgotten about them. When you go to a speciality exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia you get a little colour sticker to say you have paid. The photos below show the pole outside of the gallery and the great use of those un-needed stickers. Posted by Sarah Bell Smith. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I made a tiny little woven basket today out of old scraps of my indigo dyed fabric. Below are photos of the steps I followed. First I cut 1cm wide strips of my fabric (with interfacing for stability) and laid them on a flat piece of paper. I then wove the strips under and over to create the base. So that my base held its stability i then ironed a rectangle of thick interfacing on the back. It could also be stitched if you wanted. I then kept weaving strip after strip around the sides to build up the walls.

sarah bell smith: Amazing work made using screws
http://sarahbellsmith.blogspot.com/2013/05/amazing-work-made-using-screws.html
Amazing work made using screws. While muddling around on the internet the other day I came across this fantastic artist called Andrew Myers. He works in a whole range of mediums but one of his more intriguing ones is 'Screw's. He does a lot of portraits using screws but the one's below are my favourites. Below is a quote about Myers work in relation to the artwork that looks like a piece of hanging fabric. X 6 ′. His work can be found at his website- http:/ andrewmyersart.com/. Another sample of hand turned applique. Here is my other sample of hand turned applique I just found. This was my first ever sample and therefore it certainly is not the best ever piece. Posted by Sarah Bell Smith. Links to this post. Applique Unit- Teaching starts tomorrow. Below is an example of some past pieces of my hand turned work. This piece above is actually stretched around a canvas frame. This piece above is all hand turned and I've then used obvious stitching to highlight the design. I went ho...
