EcoWarriorMe: November 2013
https://ecowarriorme.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Monday, 4 November 2013. With fresh reports on how disconnected we are becoming from nature, we took the opportunity this fine weekend to reconnect, see what's out there and get muddy. The changing seasons show Glasgow's parks at their best. Here is Pollok. A riot of colour. Down by the river. In the bright sunlit woods. By the old stable block. In the walled garden. EcoWarriorMe: What I Learned During Earth Hour
https://ecowarriorme.blogspot.com/2013/03/what-i-learned-during-earth-hour.html
Sunday, 24 March 2013. What I Learned During Earth Hour. A book and a wind-up torch. During Earth Hour, I learned the following:. The origin of apples;. A little about the last few months of Leon Trotsky’s life before being exiled;. That I can still read a book in the dark with a torch (like I did as a child, under the blanket after bed time);. And, thanks to @glasgow kat, that petrochemical candles have much higher emissions than an electric light. 25 March 2013 at 19:48. 25 March 2013 at 20:28. Click o...

EcoWarriorMe: September 2012
https://ecowarriorme.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, 27 September 2012. I thought long and hard about how to travel. Whether to go for the speed of flying versus the slower but greener train, eventually opting for the train despite the ungodly hour of departure. And while almost everyone else sleeps on I ponder whether I’m being a martyr to the environmental cause or just a mug making a meaningless gesture; a misplaced idealist or true eco warrior. EcoWarriorMe: May 2013

Tuesday, 14 May 2013. But what are the implications of exceeding a CO2 concentration of 400 ppm? Such a dark future is by no means certain. We still have a little time to act, but not long. The more we procrastinate the harder it will be to head off the worst extremes coming our way. If we continue with "business as usual" we are on target for 450ppm by the middle of the century, accompanied by six degrees Celsius temperature rises. That doesn't bear thinking about. EcoWarriorMe: Clyde Fastlink - A Revolution in Public Transport
https://ecowarriorme.blogspot.com/2012/09/clyde-fastlink-revolution-in-public.html
Tuesday, 11 September 2012. Clyde Fastlink - A Revolution in Public Transport. The problems with delivery of Edinburgh's new tram system has been well reported in the media, mostly because of the disruption caused by the works, its immense price tag and lengthy delays but Glasgow's bold new transport initiative has grabbed a lot less headlines, probably because of its more modest price tag and, more likely, due to its spectacular lack of impact on the city. According to the City Council:. Which urgently ...

EcoWarriorMe: June 2013
https://ecowarriorme.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, 23 June 2013. The Time is Right for GM Crops. According to environment secretary Owen Patterson, the time is right for GM crops and it is the duty of the British Government to convince the public that this is the case. He then said that GM crops are probably. Safer than conventional crops and seven million children have gone blind or died over the past decade because attempts to grow a strain of GM rice ( Golden Rice. The minister went on to back a scientific approach:. The environment secretary ...

EcoWarriorMe: January 2013
https://ecowarriorme.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, 31 January 2013. We must find alternatives to fossil fuels for our energy. We must also tackle the huge amount of waste we send to landfill. Waste that is packed with energy. An obvious solution would be to extract energy from the waste but it is never that simple. Energy can be extracted using different technologies such as anaerobic digestion used in some material recovery facilities or direct combustion (incineration) of the waste. EcoWarriorMe has previously commented. Links to this post.

Tuesday, 26 February 2013. On the fundamental interconnectedness of all things. It may sound philosophically abstract but here are two examples of such complex interactions in nature. The first involves the smallest primate, Madame Berthes Mouse Lemur and the second involves the largest land mammal, the African Elephant. Links to this post. Wednesday, 20 February 2013.
