Heading East

Thursday, September 17, 2009. We arrived in Emmaus at last. We are a little sad that the trip is over but happy to be back in this gem of a town. Clara, Sadie and Max were great travelers and campers. They helped us set up the tent and sleeping bags, carry water and take everything down again - even late at night. Setting up camp was a lot of work but worth it. They loved running around and exploring each new camp site and making little forts. Or just played. Their little bins came in handy as tables.

Heading East: North Again

http://www.eastto7gen.blogspot.com/2009/09/north-again.html

Wednesday, September 2, 2009. While lying in our tent, we heard the sound of music. Sam went to check it out and roused us out of our sleeping bags to join a family a few sights away. They were on their way to a music festival in Yosemite. They were good. The next morning, we left Lassen (even though we would have liked to have stayed). We want to get to Yellowstone before Labor day - and still have a long way to go. We headed north towards Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. Boiling River and Stagecoach.

Heading East: Buffalo Crossing

http://www.eastto7gen.blogspot.com/2009/09/buffalo-crossing.html

Monday, September 7, 2009. Last night, as we were leaving, we didn't know why there was a traffic jam in the middle of Yellowstone but suspected animals. We had seen them by the side of the road before. We were right (videos follow). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Boiling River and Stagecoach. Yellostone - part 1. Crater Lake National Park. Heading East: Pronghorn Antelope

http://www.eastto7gen.blogspot.com/2009/09/pronghorn-antelope.html

Tuesday, September 8, 2009. The last few times we drove across the West we looked and looked for antelope but only saw one lonely one out in the middle of a field. We squinted at it but couldn't really be sure it was an antelope. This trip we looked for them again. We thought we saw one in Idaho but couldn't be sure. We didn't see any in Yellowstone. But then, in central Wyoming, we started to see them. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Boiling River and Stagecoach. Yellostone - part 1.

Heading East: Lake Michigan

http://www.eastto7gen.blogspot.com/2009/09/lake-michigan.html

Thursday, September 10, 2009. We drove quickly across Wisconsin and Illinois. Today we stopped at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, at the bottom of Lake Michigan. The small park is part of the national park system, nestled right in the middle of an industrial area. It is surrounded by factories, a power plant, and other development. A group of people worked very hard to preserve the dunes, lakeshore and forested area by the dunes. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Boiling River and Stagecoach.

Heading East: Boiling River and Stagecoach

http://www.eastto7gen.blogspot.com/2009/09/boiling-river-and-stagecoach.html

Monday, September 7, 2009. Boiling River and Stagecoach. During our 4 days in Yellowstone, we saw a lot of the sights that most tourists see. We saw beautiful waterfalls,. And fun stagecoach rides. We also lucked out. We made some friends at the campground who live near by. They told us about a place that isn't on the map. It is called the Boiling River. It appears that a lot of people knew about it too. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Boiling River and Stagecoach. Yellostone - part 1.

The Leaping Kennedys: May 2015

http://leapingks.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 28, 2015. Girls on the Run. Last year, I was at the Cornell reunion when Clara had her "Girls on the Run" race. I didn't want to miss it again this year when it was Sadie's turn. But, I have to say I was nervous. I haven't run a race since I was pregnant with Max in 2005. In fact, I don't think I've run more than 2 miles since then. So, my goal was to run the whole thing, not stop, and try to keep up with Sadie. I was hoping adrenalin would kick in and it wouldn't be too bad. Saturday, May ...

The Leaping Kennedys: Bike trip and omens

http://leapingks.blogspot.com/2015/07/bike-trip-and-omens.html

Monday, July 20, 2015. Bike trip and omens. Ann organized a really nice bike trip for the 3 of us. 65 miles up the Pine Creek Rail Trail. We set off Friday moring in good spirits. The first blown tire didn't get us down. Nor did a blown saddle bag or two. We found a little camp site 35 miles in, ate our rehydrated meals, drank some wine, and hit the sack. The next morning, there was the tire to fix, again. So Ann and I cruised straight to town to the hospital and Shel collected her boys and followed us.

The Leaping Kennedys: Packing for Weeks

http://leapingks.blogspot.com/2015/07/packing-for-weeks.html

Friday, July 31, 2015. Last weekend, we packed for almost a month. Sam will still be home, but the kids and I had to pack for a week at the farm, a day or so in Newport, a week in Boston and 5 days canoing in the Saranacs. And the kids were home for less than 24 hours between camp Kirkwood and our leaving for the farm. Kind of a whirlwind for them. We managed to go to a party at the Ville's and a baptism at church (Samantha's cute little sister) during those 24 hours too. Why Look at Art. Week at the farm.

The Leaping Kennedys: Week at the farm

http://leapingks.blogspot.com/2015/07/week-at-farm.html

Friday, July 31, 2015. Week at the farm. The kids went to Genesee Country Museum Camp. Clara was in the cooking camp, Sadie did the Hick Fin camp and Max did the farmer camp. It was Max's first year to go, and he liked it. He like shopping for summer paraphernalia more though. Missy was at the farm. We climbed down to the falls. And just enjoyed being at the farm. Someone found a snail, a rare sight around those parts. We used the kayaks at the pond. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Why Look at Art.

The Leaping Kennedys: Summer starts

http://leapingks.blogspot.com/2015/06/summer-starts.html

Thursday, June 18, 2015. We started the summer with our "End of the School Year Party". It was a great chance to get everyone together. By the end of the night, the kids were pooped. The next morning, I organized the things folks left:. The last few years, when summer starts, the kids make "Centers" where they rotate through academic activities. The girls love to make the centers, setting time tables for "reading", or "science" or "computer time" or "free play". Summer time dog cut:. Wulu is so versatile!

The Leaping Kennedys: Mid summer ramble - a week at home

http://leapingks.blogspot.com/2015/07/so-its-summer-vacation.html

Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Mid summer ramble - a week at home. So it's summer vacation. And it's a little crazy. Every morning there is swim team. And then the kids get to relax and be creative. Its a nice change from the typical camp routine every other summer, but it is still busy. Then I took them all out for ice cream. And then we went to the school. Max and the boys filled up a huge glass jar with wine berries and were very happy about it while I worked on facilities type tasks. Now I'm driving Max t...

The Leaping Kennedys: Time at the farm

http://leapingks.blogspot.com/2015/07/time-at-farm.html

Friday, July 10, 2015. Time at the farm. It is always so nice to go to the farm. There is a mix of work and play, chilling and socializing. It always seems to go by quickly. Anna explored some of Melissa's dresses. Aunt Delma and Uncle Mike stopped by one afternoon. And we attached Grandpa Call's work bench, sending much of the items to the scrap yard. Mom is all about the scrap yard these days. The adults went to dinner at the LeRoy country club. It got cold so Sam covered himself up. Why Look at Art.

The Leaping Kennedys: Last day on my own

http://leapingks.blogspot.com/2015/08/last-day-on-my-own.html

Sunday, August 2, 2015. Last day on my own. Despite having a very nice weekend and trying to have fun and pretend I don't have much to do, I have a ton to do. Tomorrow I start back at CH2M Hill. I originally wanted to go back the month Dad died in April 2013. But life on my own, with a higher rate and more flexibility, wasn't so bad. It lasted longer than I anticipated. The Leaping Kennedys: Saranac Lake

http://leapingks.blogspot.com/2015/08/saranac-lake.html

Monday, August 17, 2015. Last October, I sat in the car at the soccer field and waited while the kids played. When the clock hit 9:00, I could reserve the best camp sites on Saranac Lake. I had my wireless hot spot, computer and 3 different credit cards ready. I needed to reserve five camp sites for five families on one island on Lower Saranac for three nights and if I delayed, I wouldn't get it. I also wanted to reserve scattered sites on Middle saranac for two nights. To top it off, Kyle drove up and m...

The Leaping Kennedys: Kids to camp Kirkwood

http://leapingks.blogspot.com/2015/07/kids-to-camp-kirkwood.html

Monday, July 20, 2015. Kids to camp Kirkwood. Camp Kirkwood, the regional Presbyterian camp had a big sale this year. I could send all three kids to a week of camp for a very reasonable rate. So off they went. It was Max's second sleepover camp. But, Clara practically revolted when we got there and she realized she was one of the oldest. Max seemed totally happy with his accommodations. Sadie was happy at first:. Then we dropped off Clara to the teen area, and her mood rebounded. Why Look at Art. Sadie C...
