Dinner last night was superb: Cook found a fine thick rib-eye at the local meat counter, and prepared it inspired by a recent NY Time recipe. Potatoes as she often cooks them, in butter, with salt, pepper, garlic, and chopped parsley. As the Italians say, simply the best.

Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Back to the eatblog. Eastside Road, July 28, 2015—. I' VE BEEN BUSY. Not too busy to eat, of course; just too busy to write. Let's see: last time I told you about the miraculous Ojai tri-tip… that waa last Wednesday, though it seems a month ago. Since then it's been H O T. Up here — 102° today, for example — too hot to cook: but we've been doing it. We stopped at a favorite butcher shop on Thursday and bought a couple of duck legs. Saturday: Salmon, bruschetta, broad beans.

The dog is reasonably correct, politically: from Niman Schell, or whatever it's called these days. The bun's from Downtown Bakery and Creamery in Healdsburg. An onion sliced quite thin; mustard; pickle relish. Onthe side a fine cole slaw Cook made from cabbage, onion, parsley I'd guess; who knows what else. Salice Salentino, Epicuro, 2012.

We refer to it as our Revolutionary War, but there was no revolution; England persisted in its antiquated monarchy (as it continues to do): we simply declared our Independence. We celebrated the occasion with a modest but delicious and nourishing lunch: chicken broth fortified with leftover pesto, and plums and figs from the trees.
