November 7, 2012. Been thinking a lot about my son lately. It’s been a year since I’ve seen him although we talk on the phone 2-3 times a week. It’s not the same. I wrote this story for him a couple of years ago. I hope to read it to him one day. In person. Soon. I miss you, little man. Then he wonders: What keeps a tree from falling over? Why, ...

Day 3: In the field – Toubakouta and the Saloum Delta area. March 9, 2013. Today’s conference room – Laurent and I waiting for the regional president of the Conservation Farmers. Day 3: Tuesday, 5 March 2013. Toubakouta, Fatick, Senegal. Simply put, one of the most extraordinary days of my life. I was assured that tomorrow will be much less taxing as this day. No regular post today…. March 15, 2013. 8230;the nights of irregular, to say the least, sleep coupled with a long 4 1/2 hour drive to Dakar has me drained. Will post again tomorrow before getting on my flight to Paris. Many thanks again to CLUSA and USAID’s Wula Nafaa project. You all are doing great work and I’m humbled that I could even have a small part in it. Sent from my iPad. Farewell Senegal (but not the end of the blog) →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. About « Senegal Dispatches
https://senegaldispatches.wordpress.com/about
Senegal is one of the sub-saharan countries on the western coast of Africa (about the size of South Dakota). The capital city, Dakar, sits on the westernmost point of the African continent, the Cap-Vert peninsula. The official, unifying language is French. Though there are several other national Senegalese languages, Wolof is the language most used by the groups I interacted with. The Saloum River Delta Area. Day 10: In the Field – Tambacounda. March 12, 2013. Day 10: Tuesday, 12 March 2013. This morning we’ve had to move hotels. The one we were in last night was full for tonight so we’ve moved to hotel in the heart of Tambacounda, or Tamba as the locals call it. It has the feel of Modesto, if Modesto was 150mi from the Mexican border. We are only that far from the border with Mali. This entry was tagged adventure. Day 9: In the Field – Tambacounda. Day 8: Quiet day in Kaolack. March 11, 2013. Day 8: Sunday, 10 March 2013. Kaolack, Kaolack, Senegal. Before the Internet went out, I also got a chance to Skype some with Susan. I can’t be very miserable when that happens. Alas, the power went out and upon its return the wifi suffered. The signal has been extremely weak if available at all. I’m putting this dispatch in the pipeline in the hopes that it sneaks out when there is enough. Day 7: Observations from Kaolack. March 10, 2013. Out on the Senegales...
