Monday, December 30, 2013. A Christmas Eve Visit to our Friends in Palencia. Every lady got a manicure from the sister missionaries. Each person was able to visit with the missionaries, and all were entertained by the missionary choir with violin accompaniment. Then each guest received a Christmas gift bag with socks, gloves, Chapstick, personal hygiene items, treats, and a picture of the Savior. Sunday, October 20, 2013. You may not want to ride the bus in Guatemala. In addition to chicken buses, we have green, blue, and red buses. Each red bus travels a specific route and costs one Q1 per ride, which is about 12 cents. The buses are old, but refurbished (as you can see) and are usually crowded, and not necessarily safe.well, actually not safe! They are privately owned and cover the whole city. Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Rick told them of our new calling in Quetzaltenango, and invited them to let us know when they come to the Quetzaltenango Temple, as they sometimes take the youth there. In a way we felt a bit like Alma who saw his friends and fellow missionaries after many years and "did rejoice exceedingly; and what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord." Saturday, November 16, 2013. We went to Lake Atitlan again when our daughter Kara and her husband were here in October. We enjoyed our third visit to the lake for the same reasons we have liked it before: beautiful lake surrounded by three volcanoes, nice hotel, well-manicured gardens that bloom year-round, and Mayan culture that is seen in the people's dress and crafts.
