European Michael: Michael's European Adventures - Backpacking Travel Blog
http://www.europeanmichael.blogspot.com/2009/06/sun-came-out-in-paris.html
Friday, June 12, 2009. The Sun Came Out In Paris. After a week of autumn jacket weather complete with daily rainstorms, Thursday finally arrived sunny and warm, so we hopped a train to Versailles. In the blog comments, my sister recently pointed out that it sounds like I'm doing a lot of eating over here. Well Rebecca, when you are in France with all this fantastic food, one ought to enjoy it, right? So, back to our picnic, which was turning out to be a great idea as the sun started to set, painting the ...

Saturday, May 30, 2009. This is it, the 11th hour! My bag is packed and I'm headed out the door! My brother Adam is dropping me off at the airport where I'll meet up with my travel companions Marc and Alex. We begin our 2 month journey by flying to London, where we'll be for four days. Check back frequently for updates, and feel free to make a comment or two. I'm going to try to make this a daily thing to keep everybody entertained. Thanks :). Posted by Michael at 10:38 AM. Wednesday, June 3, 2009. The Art of Being a Tourist. A wise man once said, speak softly and carry a big map. Well, that is what we did yesterday. After finding out that the bus tours recommended to us by my brother were about the cost of our entire day's budget, we bought a map for  2 and decided to hoof it instead. What a store. Talk about the center of the universe for luxury goods! Today we're going to hit some of the free museums in town, and tomorrow we get on a plane to Amsterdam!

Friday, June 19, 2009. The Alps Are Gorge-ous. After showering, we put together a carb-heavy dinner of pasta and bolognese sauce that sent all three of us into food comas. We spent the remainder of the evening socializing with the diverse array of backpackers at our hostel while sipping tasty hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps, a surprisingly delicious beverage. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Paris, Full Of Surprises. My only regret is that we don't have even more time to spend here in this gorgeous and bustling city full of fun and surprisingly friendly people. We have so much to see over the next three days, and just from looking at our map of Paris, I could not be more excited. Posted by Michael at 6:57 AM. At June 10, 2009 at 5:37 AM. Adventures Across the Ocean, Summer 2009. Reflections and photos of my globetrotting adventures from May to August, 2009. Wednesday, July 8, 2009. A Bumpy Train Ride Through the Iron Curtain. We had no reservations for this train, so we found the first open compartment with seats. A few stops later we were joined by a bunch of chatty Madriños on holiday for two weeks with their trusty InterRail passes getting them around. Sounds familiar! This trip really made us appreciate the flexibility a EurRail pass...

Hostelmania!: Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!
http://hostelmania.blogspot.com/2009/07/mr-gorbachev-tear-down-this-wall.html
Sunday, July 26, 2009. Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall! Berlin's a great city. As I said, it's extremely modern, but still dripping with history. The past few days have seemed to include great swatches of the Berlin Wall and hopping between the former East and West Berlins. You to figure out which is which! From there we headed back to the Reichstag area for dinner, with the intention of climbing the Reichstag dome for a nice view of Berlin at dusk. Sadly, dinner ran long and we were about ...160;Th...
Hostelmania!: Sweden: Still no Meatballs
http://hostelmania.blogspot.com/2009/07/sweden-still-no-meatballs.html
Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Sweden: Still no Meatballs. We didn't try so hard to look for meatballs today, so maybe it's not Sweden's fault. . Our walk continued after our threesome regrouped, to another store where we found dinner for ourselves. We carted this for a good few hours across the city until finally arriving near one of Stockholm's amusement parks (speaking of expensive- you pay an admission fee to the park, and then you STILL have to pay for the rides! On the water, where we sat and ate.

Gotta love languages with almost no English cognates. It is called Becherovka, and basically tastes like Christmas in a glass. Has anyone heard of it before? It's also really good with tonic water. Hopefully it's sold in the US, otherwise I may find myself importing bottles from a distributor's web site that hopefully already exists. Posted by Marc Weil.

Adventures Across the Ocean, Summer 2009. Reflections and photos of my globetrotting adventures from May to August, 2009. Thursday, July 23, 2009. Final Words on Austria. I actually did not expect to be back in the shadow of the glorious Alps again after our departure from Switzerland. But I am so glad I was wrong! Besides all the Alps hiking and general exploration of this cute town sized somewhere between Bern and Interlaken, this was a pretty low key stop for us, and a nice close to our time in Austria.
