Under The Family S. The Guatemalan FTF staff identify the most needy families and assess their medical and economic situation. Some initial help may be directed toward food supply and immediate medical needs. Individuals in urgent need of nutritional food, emergency medical care, clothing, or housing are given assistance to sustain themselves. These are frequently elderly or abandoned people who have no means of obtaining help from a community.

Self-Help, Training, and Community. Nutrition and Women's Programs. Women participate in market day activities. Courses have been offered to raise women's self esteem. And encourage them to take an active role in community affairs and decisions. These classes range from family health and nutrition to a woman’s participation in. The FTF program also helps fund some start up ventures, such as stores. Courses in cooking and baking skills. Sewing, Weaving and Embroidery. Gardening, Fruit, and Christmas Trees.

Nov 7, 2012 Guatemala Earthquake 7.4M. Of the Highlands are very susceptible to damage from tropical storms and hurricanes. Roads and bridges are washed out, along with homes and crops that have been planted on the mountainsides. The tropical storms of recent years have caused families from a dozen villages to leave their home sites and resettle on more level ground, but at higher and colder elevations (11,000 ft.).
