Honey Dot Comb: Enter the rank amateur
http://honeydotcomb.blogspot.com/2007/02/enter-rank-amateur.html
Saturday, February 10, 2007. Enter the rank amateur. Bees have been buzzing around my head, figuratively, for a couple of years now. Before long, I hope, they will be buzzing - literally - around my head (but not too closely). I am about to enter the world of beekeeping. I have been reading a lot about it. I have been attending meetings of the Blount County, Tenn., Beekeepers Association. The beekeepers association is having its annual two-night beekeeping workshop next week, and I will be attending that.

http://jprof.blogspot.com/2009/12/new-edition-of-fowler.html

And was looking for some basic writing references and somehow - I don't remember how - came upon Fowler. It was, the parlance of that day, the real thing. Fowler is an "it," as well as a "he.". He is Henry Fowler. It is A Dictionary of Modern English Usage. Or as Jim Holt notes in his essay in the New York Times. You can't take Fo...
