Crafty Surf = Crafts + Surf: June 2013

Friday, June 28, 2013. Pocket Fin Adjustment Tool Kit. In my quest to make everything more compact, I wanted to make my fin tool kit as small as possible. For this, I challenged myself to fit everything into a standard travel plastic soap container:. I used a stubby flathead screwdriver to fit in the case, for using with single fin change outs. I also added a standard fin key (small Allen wrench) to the box. I also labeled each container to make sure the screws wouldn't get mixed up. Posted by Crafty Surf.

Friday, July 26, 2013. Pimp my Rashguard DIY. Anyway, as an adult, and a surfer, I thought it would be fun to get artsy fartsy with one of my rash guards. I wanted to test if these markers would stay on Lycra and how they would draw. For this project, I opted to use the black markers so they'd show up on the white. The marker tips are definitely different as you can see:. The Tulip Brand Marker is on Top, the Sharpie Brand is on the Bottom. Next, I put a little matching design on the bottom right of the ...

Crafty Surf = Crafts + Surf: How to Remove GoPro Mounts (without having to reglass your board!)
http://craftysurf.blogspot.com/2014/07/how-to-remove-gopro-mounts-without.html
Thursday, July 10, 2014. How to Remove GoPro Mounts (without having to reglass your board! I've had a board I've liked and surfed on for a while, but I was ready for something a little different this year. I would like to sell it, and it's still in great shape, but I have Go Pro mounts on the nose of it that I put on about a YEAR ago! Now, I realize some people would like having the mounts, but there are others who may see the mounts as a Kook beacon (and I should care why? That's right, after you've gon...

Friday, March 14, 2014. DIY Neoprene Sunscreen Stick Holder. Going through my stash of upcycle items, I still had a bit of 2 mm neoprene from a old pair of surf shorts that I had cut up for a past neoprene project. I only had a bit left, so I used the remnant to make a little holder for my sunscreen stick that I can attach to whatever I want when I head to the beach. Neoprene Sunscreen Stick Holder. To make sure the pattern stays in place while I cut, I stapled it to the neoprene in a few spots. I clippe...

Crafty Surf = Crafts + Surf: Lovin' the Nubbin
http://craftysurf.blogspot.com/2014/06/lovin-nubbin.html
Friday, June 13, 2014. We were lucky to have a mini swell last week that surprised the hardened Summertime locals, who had already embraced the coming June doldrums. The timing for this project, then, couldn't have worked out any better, since I ended up with trial run conditions. I have a 7'0" funshape that's set up as a tri-fin. I'm not a teenager, so I don't ride little chip boards, but I'm not very big, either, so a funshape can be a bit of a bear to turn when I want to go a bit faster. I was going t...

Crafty Surf = Crafts + Surf: April 2014
http://craftysurf.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 4, 2014. When I tried to use a screwdriver to firmly but carefully take out the screw, the top metal just flaked right off like baklava. Mmmm. Anywho, I could have gotten a REALLY tiny EZ out bit to drill into the bolt and hope against hope that I didn't hit the bottom of the fin box and go into the foam of the surfboard! Instead, since the screw head is domed, I made the attempt to cut a groove into the top of it while the screw was still stuck in the fin box. Once the groove was completed...

Friday, February 28, 2014. DIY Wetsuit Storage Hanger. A Curling session you're missing? Ah, I feel better now. Since the wetsuit will be going into storage soon, I was thinking of a way to make a good storage hanger without going out and buying one, since my agoraphobia increases with the number of tourists on the road. The four hangers will provide the thickness necessary to hold up a heavy wetsuit (thoroughly dried of course). I'm going to align them next to each other like this:. Now, if you want to ...

Crafty Surf = Crafts + Surf: December 2013
http://craftysurf.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 6, 2013. With the generally accepted happiest time of year before us (surfers actually call that hurricane season instead), I always like to think up a gift craft that can be a useful to another surfer, or yourself. For this year, I was inspired by a recent friend's unfortunate drop-n-ding. She only has the one board, and can't wait for the ding repair guy to "get around to it". The swell has been fun for days, and she doesn't want to miss out in case there's more. First in the kit:.
