Nagoya, Nagoya desu: April 2012
http://pacificwestside.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Nagoya, Nagoya desu. Monday, April 2, 2012. I made a second visit to South Korea this year, again to the city of Busan. I had time to visit a new neighborhood called Nampo-dong, a shopping area on the south side of Busan. Nampo-dong has both normal stores and street shopping stores (think real and fake Nike). Nampo-dong also has an observation deck called the Yongdusan park tower, it cost three bucks to get up there. Here are some views from the top of the deck. Also outside the tower was a large bell.

Nagoya, Nagoya desu: Only in Japan
http://pacificwestside.blogspot.com/2013/02/only-in-japan.html
Nagoya, Nagoya desu. Saturday, February 23, 2013. Keeping in mind Nagoya is a city that is about the size of Chicago and I live right in the center of the city. A couple of nights ago I walked over to a Japanese fast food place that serves cooked meats and vegetables over rice called gyudon or butadon. The restaurant name is Sukiya. Since we are on the topic of only in Japan, here are a couple of other things. At the Mini-stop near my apartment, they recently installed a laundry vending machine. ...Japan...

Nagoya, Nagoya desu: September 2012
http://pacificwestside.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Nagoya, Nagoya desu. Sunday, September 23, 2012. This past week I was in Sacheon, South Korea and found myself under another Typhoon, this time Typhoon Sanba. This photo is the morning of September 17th, about 3 hours before the eye came over Sacheon. Saturday, September 8, 2012. The standard Japanese beverage can size is 330 ml (almost the same as the US), for a couple of years now manufactures have been selling 135 ml cans. It's kind of convenient, especially is you are not that thirsty. This summer Pe...

Nagoya, Nagoya desu. Thursday, January 31, 2013. Wake Up and Smell the Chorizo. I was lucky enough to travel to Detroit this past Christmas and visit with friends and family, my first time back to the US in over a year. For christmas my parents got me a couple of t-shirts from Mexicantown, including one from a grocery store called La Colmena or the Honey Bee Market. The back of the shirt says 'Wake Up and Smell the Chorizo', always a good reminder. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Wake Up and Smell the Chorizo.

Nagoya, Nagoya desu: March 2013
http://pacificwestside.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Nagoya, Nagoya desu. Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Repatriation, kind of. This past weekend my assignment in Japan ended. You can see my effort to clean up my apartment actually ended up producing what seemed to be a larger mess. After a cold winter, I was lucky to see my garden bloom one last time (no effort on my part). Typically when an assignment like this ends you repatriate. These movers are actually packing up stuff and sending it direct to Italy, but I have not told them where in Italy to send it ye...

Nagoya, Nagoya desu: February 2013
http://pacificwestside.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Nagoya, Nagoya desu. Tuesday, February 26, 2013. Last February I ran Ekiden, a large running rally organized by local industry. I was able to run again this year and shave just over a minute off my personal time compared to last year. 5K was 26.23 min and improved to 25 min. Not bad, but I'm not sure if that counts as progress. It rained but many people showed up to run. Saturday, February 23, 2013. I thought leaving money on the counter was a once-and-a-while thing, but I visited Sukiya again for lunch ...

Nagoya, Nagoya desu: December 2012
http://pacificwestside.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Nagoya, Nagoya desu. Friday, December 7, 2012. There was another large earthquake off the coast of northern Japan, kind of in the same area as the 3/11 event. Today's earthquake caused a tsunami warning along the north -north east coast and was felt in Nagoya. But the effect in Nagoya was minimal, with damage or any other issues. The photo above was taken one hours after the earthquake, from my apartment in Nagoya, you can see everything is okay. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Nagoya, Nagoya desu: June 2012
http://pacificwestside.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Nagoya, Nagoya desu. Thursday, June 28, 2012. Another tourist spot in Japan that is a great place to visit at night is Asakusa, Tokyo. Asakusa is a popular area with a famous temple called Senso-ji, shopping, food stalls, an amusement park and a couple of McDonalds. Daily, it is full of people, loud and difficult to walk around. But at night the crowds go home and it becomes a good place to relax. This is the main area for praying at Senso-ji, you can see how calm it is. Quiet. Sunday, June 24, 2012.

Nagoya, Nagoya desu. Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Typhoon Vicente, Hong Kong. For this trip, I was not aware of a typhoon coming, I did not really check and the airline did not mention anything. Above is the morning of the storm, I just thought it was bad weather. The plan was a execute the 'Hong Kong in a day' itinerary. From wikitravel. Making reference to the itinerary, the above central port 5 around 11:30am (3 hours behind schedule). Above is the 'wellcome' sign for Mui Wo. As a result a bus had to be us...
