The Olmsted Scholar Experience. And the Adventure Begins! Last weekend, Bobby and I started our Olmsted experience by attending the annual Olmsted Scholar Reunion and Orientation, held in Washington D.C. We flew in from Salt Lake City on Friday afternoon in preparation for the kick-off event on Friday evening. We had the pleasure of meeting the other scholars of the Olmsted Scholar Class of 2012, with representatives from each branch of the United States military. More. Blog at WordPress.com.

The Olmsted Scholar Experience. A few nights ago, we were surprised to see that Palazzo Vecchio was open at 9:30pm. We figured if the doors were open, we might as well see what it was like. The Palazzo Vecchio (or “Old Palace”) is a gigantic Romanesque palace/fortress that broke ground in 1299 (wow! The BEST gelato ever. You know how you read in endless travel books about where to eat, where to shop, and what sites to see? Jumping the pond and the days thereafter…. Blog at WordPress.com.

The Olmsted Scholar Experience. Christmas in the City of Light. This was our first Christmas without family or friends nearby, but Bobby and I wanted to make the most of it. After opening up our Christmas gifts a few days early (Santa came to Florence on the 22nd this year! We set out to spend the holiday in Paris. Paris is a city that both Bobby and I had always wanted to visit, but never got the chance and we were very excited to see the city for the first time together. More. Christmas in Florence is ...

The Olmsted Scholar Experience. Venturing East – Ravenna, Italy. A Sunday in Siena. We were very embarrassed to admit to our language school professors and visitors that we hadn’t visited Siena yet. Siena is a city only an hour south of Florence and one of the most visited cities in Tuscany (and in Italy), so we didn’t have a good excuse as to why. So, today was the day. There were two major sites to see: Siena’s Duomo (of course! And the Piazza del Campo, where the Palio is held every year.

The Olmsted Scholar Experience. It’s November and we’re waiting on the other shoe to drop. It’s STILL 60 degrees during the day here, so until the weather breaks and we cannot really enjoy the outdoors, andiamo! Today, we chose to drive the short hour and 15 minutes to Pisa and Lucca, two cities near the west coast of Italy. More. 3rd time is the charm? Someone once told us that it takes three times to complete any task at a government office in Italy. Turn in paperwork and cross fingers. More.

Singapore | Postcards from Beijing

https://postcardsfrombeijing.wordpress.com/2014/07/23/singapore

8230;the adventures of H R! July 23, 2014. By Postcards From Beijing. Singapore looked so new and modern. We set out for the National Museum of Singapore, which had a little bit of everything – history, art, nature, and out front there were a series of displays put on by the Singapore military as part of the Armed Forces Day celebration. A bell from one of Singapore’s churches inside the museum. Walking through the campus of an art school. Walking through a market area. Not only did Singapore have great ...

8230;the adventures of H R! Malaysia I: KL and Ipoh. June 6, 2014. By Postcards From Beijing. We made it to the Petronas Towers, but unfortunately too late to nab a spot on the viewing deck on the top floor. So, we walked around the mall on the inside, ate some food, and then spent the evening walking around the area just outside the towers. At the cave temples. A large statue of the Chinese goddess Guanyin. As you can see, these temples are well-maintained by the community. Along the outer walls. A woma...

8230;the adventures of H R! August 2, 2014. By Postcards From Beijing. No natural history museum, but we could have gone to this museum. We decided to skip it though. Ahhh, finally, some baseball! Unfortunately, we were a week too early for the exhibition games but. Instead, we kept walking and found ourselves at a rather large temple, which we were welcomed into:. words are futile devices

Like my dad says i need to get motivated and rise about it but how do i do that when i feel so depressed that i feel like i’d be doing him and my mom a favor by just swallowing a whole bottle of pills. The thing is, i can’t tell him this because then he gets mad at me and makes it out like i’m being over-dramatic. Which only makes me feel more suicidal. What is the point anymore honestly. The hitch here is whether or not i’m too cowardly to go through with these thoughts in my head. Not here for feminist...

The first step towards dealing with the way we treat the things that we no longer find useful is an understanding of the impact they have on our culture and environment. Up until now, our culture has decided that the few options, burying, burning or dumping in the ocean are enough. It’s time to change that mentality. What happens when you throw something away?
