Sunday, March 16, 2008. It has been raining cats and dogs for the last 4 days, reminding me of monsoon in Mumbai. Today the skies are clear and A has planned a surprise outing. We have enough time since there is daylight till 7.30 pm. LRT- light rapid transit- is a marvel of modern technology. It is a single carriage with a seating capacity of 18 and can carry upto 30 passengers. It has no driver or motorman! Our hostess treats us to a lavish lunch, peppered with witty anecdotes about life in Singapore and neighbouring countries. After lunch, we proceed by taxi to nearby Chinese Garden. Thursday, February 28, 2008. Mumbai has no power shutdown except in some outer suburbs. There is shortage of power elsewhere in the State. Even in Mumbai, excessive domestic consumption is discouraged. Electricity bills give you a shock. The use of air conditioners in homes is not common. I am told that there is a place called Snow City, where they have created artificial snow and visitors can enjoy wearing heavy woolens. No plans to visit it since I have seen real snow in the Himalayas.
