Morton Grove Forest Preserves. The Wayside Woods Forest Preserve consist of a large fine field of unique prairie plants surrounded on all sides by a fringe of woods. The entrance off of Lehigh Avenue leads to a grassy picnic area with a shelter. Across the road from the entrance are the railroad tracks of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul line and along which is a narrow fringe of valuable prairie plants monitored by the stewards of Wayside. In the summer of 2017 we undertook a survey to get ideas and a steer for our work on the Moor. Welcome to the Moor. This is an open space for public recreation and has been since 1907 when Lord Egerton sold it to the then Urban District Council. It’s 5.5 acres contains footpaths, a play area, picnic area, a rustic shelter, cycle parking, seating, trees and borders the privately owned Moor Pool with its various birdlife.
