June 2015 – From sheep to shepherdess
https://fromsheeptoshepherdess.wordpress.com/2015/06
From sheep to shepherdess. A reflection of my nqt year. June 28, 2015. June 28, 2015. So, this outstanding lesson of mine (yeah, I am still mentioning it). There was a moment it could have all gone wrong. This moment was when I went to meet the external moderator at the reception and I heard her say to the receptionist that she was waiting for her colleague who was just parking. My heart skipped a beat. 2 moderators? Little old shy me delivering a lesson that was good enough to be an example for others?

From sheep to shepherdess. A reflection of my nqt year. August 16, 2015. August 17, 2015. In light of this, I thought that the only way to deal with nerves is to add a positive twist. The way I decided would be best to achieve this is to suggest ideas for first term preparation for any fellow NQTs going through the same experience. (If there are any… I hope there are! So, here they are, a list of things that I have found beneficial in curbing the first day anxiety:. GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK: One piece of ad...

From sheep to shepherdess. A reflection of my nqt year. July 27, 2015. July 27, 2015. I am about to say the one thing that all teachers out there will shake their heads at and say “Miss Gregory, we are very disappointed in you”. I am sorry fellow educators; I am bored. Should the jam go on top, or the cream? See, there I have gone, thinking about school again! I think what I need to do is just hit the savings account and book a weekend away somewhere. Bring me adventures! La Reina Del Castillo. I went ba...

From sheep to shepherdess. A reflection of my nqt year. August 27, 2015. August 27, 2015. After being in my classroom for the last two days, I have decided that now is time to admit that I have done all that I can to be prepared, without burning myself out, before the start of the term. The class has been deep cleaned (not by me) and I have added my final personal touches. I am really pleased with my challenge and reflection tables:. There will be no problems with torn paper and old staple marks! In ligh...

Not So Quiet, Please! A Little About Me. Let the Teaching…Commence! October 11, 2015. October 11, 2015. I have quite an extensive to-do list to get through today, so this blog post will have to be kept short and sweet! We have now been given our assignment title, and it is due in about three weeks…scary! I’ve spent some time planing my essay, and I have made a list of the books/articles/reports that I want to read. I’m very much into planning my essays! Bad), and I passed all of my maths sections! You ar...

Not So Quiet, Please! A Little About Me. Goes the Pizza Delivery Man…. October 4, 2015. October 4, 2015. I’ve had a fantastic week! I feel as though I’ve settled into a routine and I’m. More organised. One month ago today I was about to begin my observation week in nursery, and three weeks ago today I was feeling nervous/excited about the first day at university. Already, then, I am one ninth of the way through the course (scary, scary, scary! Goes the Pizza Delivery Man. The teacher asked if one of us c...

Not So Quiet, Please! A Little About Me. June 8, 2015. June 11, 2015. I prepared myself for the question,. Why is a degree in music relevant to being a primary school teacher? Well, I think that there are many answers. My time there made me realise just how key music is to early learning. Children learn to recite the alphabet by singing ‘The Alphabet Song’, and by pausing after the letters ‘G’, ‘P’, ‘S’, ‘V’ and ‘X’ (I think a lot of adults still recite the alphabet in this way including myself). A Desig...

Not So Quiet, Please! A Little About Me. A Beginning That Starts with an Ending (or an Ending That Starts a Beginning). August 5, 2015. August 5, 2015. It is now only a matter of weeks until I begin my teacher training, but in order to begin, a few things have had to end…. I’ve been sent pre-course tasks for English, Maths and Science. These tasks are mostly about developing subject knowledge, getting to know the National Curriculum, preparing for subject audits (in September! To quote T.S. Eliot:. Final...

Not So Quiet, Please! A Little About Me. T-Minus 62 Days…. July 1, 2015. July 4, 2015. September is approaching at an astounding speed…. A couple of days ago I received a letter from the university; it suddenly hit me just HOW soon my PGCE adventure will begin! After graduating a year ago, only two months now remain on the countdown to PGCE…. I’ll definitely do the readings that are available online, and will probably look to buy a few of the books second-hand as they are so expensive! It is now T-Minus ...

Not So Quiet, Please! A Little About Me. August 9, 2015. August 9, 2015. I thought I’d write a quick post on where I’m up to in terms of the PGCE pre-course reading/tasks…. I’ve done most of the pre-course tasks for Science, Maths and English (well, a lot of them are about developing subject knowledge, which I’m in the process of doing). There are still quite a few books on the reading list that I am yet to read, so I’d better get a move on! Too nice to be sat inside at my desk, so instead, I’ve be...

From Sheep to Alligators
Friday, February 19, 2016. Kendal, Lewes, London, Leeds, and Hamburg! After all the drama of flying into North West England at the peak of the floods (see previous), the rest of December was generally pretty quiet for me. Kendal Town Hall viewed from Allhallows Lane. I more or less stayed in the old home town of Kendal for a month. I grew up and went to school there until I was 18, but now I know virtually nobody there anymore apart from my older relatives. Lower Fellside, Kendal. First on the list was a...

From sheep to shepherdess – a reflection of my nqt year
From sheep to shepherdess. A reflection of my nqt year. There’s The Catch! November 26, 2015. Exhaustion. Exhaustion and illness. They are the words of the week and what I did not experience last half term, I have been hit with full on in the face this half term. I am currently off sick for my second day with a throat infection, so I have decided to try and use my time constructively by finally writing another post for my blog. So, back to me (minus a voice) and my little class. What a bunch they are!

Well, it seems my life has been revolving around one. The one on the scale. I had Sweet Cheeks in October weighing in at 204. Yikes! I'm not one of those lucky women that lose weight after they give birth, breastfeeding or not. Nope. I think the most I've ever lost is an ounce. Okay, I'll be real, 1-2 lbs. The hard part is when I'm pregnant I am sick for the whole time. What foods and drinks would those be? Anything healthy. I'm not even kidding. I have the baby I get these major cravings. From January -...
