Agility Novice: January 2015
http://www.agilitynovice.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 5, 2015. Agility Dogs and Continuing Education: Clicker Training. My thoughts on Clicker Training since I began learning it:. 2 My dog is scared to death of the click. This will never work. 3 Teach my dog to do something with a box using capturing? She is never going to get this. I wasn't ready to start. 5 I am far too clumsy to manage treats and a clicker. 6 My dog is too fast. She touched her nose to the box! 8 Oh My Gosh! She's IN the box! I taught her to wave! I was so reluctant to tr...
Agility Novice: February 2014

Tuesday, February 18, 2014. A few weeks ago, I took Pico to a "Show and Go" which was held at Medina Swarm Agility Club. Where we have attended many trials. A 'Show and Go' or 'Run Through' is a practice event which is set up like a real trial and is very useful for new dogs or dogs with issues especially because treats and/or toys can be used in the ring. We attended this event primarily to work on Pico's Weaves and his Teeter. During our second event, we had a light bulb moment! Our new class session s...

Saturday, June 14, 2014. Of Course You Struggle in Wildcard". Today we ran at the Medina Swarm CPE-Style Practice Agility Trial. Bright and early this morning, I wondered if it was really in our best interest to enter such a thing on such a gorgeous day. Now, I am sure that it was. Our plan was to take the starting Jump (1), the A Frame (5), the tunnel (doubled to 6), the A Frame (5), the tunnel (doubled to 6), Jump (1), Jump (1), Jackpot A (Jump-Tunnel-Jump for 15), Tire (3), then attempt Jackpot B.
Agility Novice: September 2014

Monday, September 22, 2014. NYC: Everything's Moving (except for the dogs). Mike and I took the train from Pittsburgh to NYC recently. The ride was peaceful and easy, complete with fully reclining seats and lots of legroom. The train left on time and arrived at each station right on time. The big windows gave us great views of the rolling fields and majestic mountains of Pennsylvania. We stopped in little PA hamlets where life looked idyllic. Thursday, May 29, 2014. I Have a Theory. Pico reminding me that lots of things are possible}. When I say, "I have a theory." Mike says, "Really? It seems I have lots of theories about lots of things because to me, that seems better than thinking I know it all I guess. After last night's surprise Private Lesson, I came up with 2 theories:. 1 Pico needs to learn to work with distractions because he clearly can still run Agility (I was thinking he'd never run a full course again). Plan and follow your lines!
Agility Novice: November 2013
http://www.agilitynovice.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 5, 2013. I was not going to blog about our most recent trial on 11/03/2013 because I wasn't real clear on what my learning lessons needed to be. After having such a great 2 day trial two weeks ago, this one seemed dismal. We had 1/4 Qs and Pico was not keeping a SLS, he was not Weaving, and he bailed off of the Teeter! It seemed like so much had gone wrong, I didn't know where to start! I was pretty sure most of it was my fault though! She has trouble acting normal when she's nervous".
Agility Novice: The Good, The Bad, & The Teeter
http://www.agilitynovice.com/2014/07/the-good-bad-teeter.html
Saturday, July 12, 2014. The Good, The Bad, and The Teeter. Pico and I attended a CPE trial at Medina Swarm. On Sunday July 6, 2014. As a Medina Swarm member, I was able to take Pico to 'Open Gym' night a few times and he was doing the Teeter and Weaves there just fine :). Some of the AU Crew: Alicia and Marty, Alyssa and Harper, Sweetie's Owner (sorry). Sweetie, Team Pico}. The first run for us was Snooker Level 3 and the course was:. Jumpers 4 was a nice, flowy course:. I made a few small bobbles along...
Agility Novice: September 2013

Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Simple But Not Easy. I've been a little frustrated with myself the last few weeks in Agility class. How hard is a blind cross? Or a Lateral Send? Why am I struggling with seemingly easy maneuvers? Because, it turns out, like most things Agility related, they are Simple but they are not easy! When I watched Agility for the very first time, I thought, "Oh my gosh! That looks like so much fun! Except that it's a skill that your dog needs to learn to read and it's also a skill ...
Agility Novice: April 2014
http://www.agilitynovice.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 3, 2014. As we were leaving class this week (a great class btw), I heard someone say, "we don't use a clicker because we tried and our Border Collie is afraid of it". I was instantly reminded of the early Gilda days. As a pup, Gilda was happier hanging with Daphne than training! Jessica also suggested holding the clicker behind my back if I was standing or behind my knee if I was sitting. Before I knew it, Gilda was happy to see the clicker. Sometimes a little too happy! Linda, however, d...
Agility Novice: Barn Hunt Open
http://www.agilitynovice.com/2014/11/barn-hunt-open.html
Monday, November 17, 2014. Gilda and I attended a fabulous 2-trial Barn Hunt at Columbus All Breed. This weekend. Gilda was entered in Open Trial 1 and Open Trial 2. Gilda had one prior attempt at an Open level course last month and she NQ'd for going over time. I was thrilled though because she worked and worked for the entire 2 minutes and 30 seconds. For Trial 1, Gilda was wonderful in the pre-blind area, blowing my mind by acting like a pretty normal relaxed dog! Here is video of her Qualifying run&#...
