Thoughts for the thirsty…. The name given to me about 60 years ago is Thomas. My Swahili friends called me Toma. While trying to learn Gujarati in Ahmedabad, India in the early 90’s I was given the name of Ramanbhai. For my Muslim friends, I took the name of Hanif. 8220;So, what’s with all the names? Thoughts for the thirsty…. It starts with an aqiqa. The lamb that purifies,. The bone unbroken and the hair. Are buried to surmise. That in the hope of cleansing. That mortal imperfection,. Only dashed by fear of death. For lack of resurrection. Then come the youthful pledge,. A giving of mishaq sincerely,. But for that mortal frailty. Renewed Ghadir Khumm yearly. Adam, Ibrahim and Musa. Allah’s ancient oath received. Immortal flesh by virgin birth,. Come once for all, if but believed.

Thoughts for the thirsty…. We are often saddened or even shamed when we discover that we were not invited to a dinner or birthday party of someone very dear to us. What greater shame we would feel if we refused the invitation of someone with greater honor, the greater the honor the greater the shame! Who would refuse the honor of dining with the Dai, the representative of the Imam in seclusion? Who holds greater honor than the Imam, but a prophet? He invites you, Come eat at my thal.
