Heather's Homemaking

Friday, May 18, 2012. The new girls are a month old. Today they went out for the first time in the old chicken tractor. They will still spend their nights in the house until it warms up a bit more. It won't be long until they're outside full time. Wednesday, May 16, 2012. I spent the morning in the house while it poured out. Soap was made, bread was made and a knit bag was close to completion. When the rain stopped I went out to the mailbox and was amazed at the rapid growth in the garden. My neighbors h...

Heather's Homemaking: August 2011

http://heathershomemaking.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 21, 2011. It's been a busy summer. The garden has been neglected slightly more than usual, but it seems to be holding it's own. I have lots on the agenda for the garden in the coming weeks. Cucumbers are also doing well. One that isn't pictured, is a monster that I found hanging behind the fence. It was the enormous. Hubby had to try it and was rewarded with a mouthful of very bitter cuke. The chickens thought it was gourmet. It's been a good year for watermelons. I grew Sugar Babies t...

Heather's Homemaking: March 2012

http://heathershomemaking.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 23, 2012. Late March in the garden. What a Spring we're having! It was in the mid 80s yesterday and the garden is loving it. We're due for a dose of reality in the next week, but it's been nice while it lasted. The garden has been growing faster than normal. Most years, I still have frozen ground, or even snow at this point. So, I'll take what I can get. The peas are poking their little heads up already. Spinach is up in the hoops. Lettuce and swiss chard are also poking their heads up.

Heather's Homemaking: Perpetual Onions

http://heathershomemaking.blogspot.com/2012/05/perpetual-onions.html

Wednesday, May 2, 2012. Ok, so they're really called Potato Onions or Multiplier Onions, but my name gets to the heart of the matter. These babies can supply your onion needs for ages. All this without seeds. My track record with onion seeds is rather deplorable, so any successful onion without seeds is great in my book. I got these 18 months ago at a Harvest Fair at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. There were tents set up from several places and Southern Seed Savers Exchange had potato onion. The onions w...

Heather's Homemaking: Ready for planting

http://heathershomemaking.blogspot.com/2012/04/ready-for-planting.html

Monday, April 30, 2012. Here in Southern New England, we just had what will most likely be our last significant frost. In my little yard, that was a temp of 27.8 last night. There were frost and freeze warnings up everywhere. As a result of our warm spring, there was plenty out there to be affected. Only time will tell if it affects the fruit trees for the year. Tomatoes need calcium for good growth. Lack of calcium can cause Blossom End Rot. This is when the tomato looks healthy, except for an area of r...

My Journey: January 2010

http://myjourneyandtrials.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 28, 2010. My seeds came in! Wednesday, January 27, 2010. We have too much STUFF! It is driving me batty! Am I just making myself need things that I have gotten rid of? I have no idea. I think that I would really like to go through some of the "stuff" we have though and get rid of most of it. Just Emma really need 100 stuffed animals? Probably not. Does Matt need clothes that he has had since high school? What are you doing to de-clutter? Or am I completely crazy? Friday, January 22, 2010.

Wednesday, March 23, 2016. A few years ago, I wrote a Tabernacle Prayer for the ladies of our church. I continue to use this prayer guide during the Easter Season. Because I regularly need the reminder that Jesus is my Passover Lamb, my Great High Priest. That I have the honor of standing in the Presence of The Holy One. Something about this prayer stills my heart and strips me of pride. I have shared it before, but wanted to share it with you again! Posted by Heather Noel. Saturday, November 21, 2015.
