Bird Watching

Our Home on the Interwebs. Sunday, 22 September 2013. The Moorhen or as I used to say the Red Billed Coot as I could never remember which was which but the easiest way is to think that there's an R in Moorhen. The youngster in this picture looks like a ball of wool with a red beak on it, pictures once again taken at Llanelli Wildfowl and Wetland Trust. Information on the RSPB website here. Once more this Spoonbill was seen at Llanelli WWT. And seems to be a regular visitor there. Not much of a tuft showi...

Bird Watching: Greenshank (Tringa nebularia)

http://www.holtdiary.blogspot.com/2013/09/greenshank-tringa-nebularia.html

Our Home on the Interwebs. Thursday, 19 September 2013. Normally seen in Scotland in the summer but going further south as it gets colder, I didn't actually realise that I caught this one in flight or what it was until I looked, not the best picture in the world but it will do. There's more information on the bird here. Picture taken at Llanelli WWT. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes). Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula). Barnacle Goose (Branta leucopsis).

Bird Watching: Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis)

http://www.holtdiary.blogspot.com/2013/09/pied-kingfisher.html

Our Home on the Interwebs. Wednesday, 18 September 2013. Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis). Probably not the easiest bird to photograph, it's quite small but has beautiful colours, my first sight of a Kingfisher was not the blue and orange one that we see in the UK, this was a black and white one that is pretty much the same in shape and size. This picture was taken on the south side of Lake Navasha in Kenya. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes). Black Swan (Cygnus atratus).

Bird Watching: Black Swan (Cygnus atratus)

http://www.holtdiary.blogspot.com/2013/09/black-swan-cygnus-atratus.html

Our Home on the Interwebs. Wednesday, 18 September 2013. Black Swan (Cygnus atratus). A native of Southern Australia and at one time hunted to extinction in New Zeland where it has now been re-introduced. They were brought to Europe originally as ornamental birds but some have escaped and are breeding in Europe and the UK. This was seen at Llanelli WWT. And appears to have successfully raised offspring there in previous years. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes).

Bird Watching: Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes)

http://www.holtdiary.blogspot.com/2013/09/lesser-yellowlegs-tringa-flavipes.html

Our Home on the Interwebs. Sunday, 22 September 2013. Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes). I'm pretty certain that the bird in the middle with it's back to me is a Lesser Yellowlegs. This year (2013) is the first time one has been seen at Llanelli WWT. Ther's no information on the RSPB site as it's nor a British bird but there's some stuff here:. Http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesser Yellowlegs. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes). Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula).
