A Home Grown Journal: It's A Mess But Ya Gotta Start Somewhere
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2015/05/its-mess-but-ya-gotta-start-somewhere.html
Wednesday, May 13, 2015. It's A Mess But Ya Gotta Start Somewhere. I took a bunch of pictures to chronicle our deck demolition as we go. Here's the deck from the south side. We've had flower beds on the front and both east and west ends. This is the west end of the deck with a Sugar Maple growing next to it. One of the reasons the maple tree has to go is that we have grown to. Another sad tree story. This was a Nanny Berry tree off the southeast corner of the deck. The main part of the tree died ...All t...

A Home Grown Journal: July 2014
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Wa-Hoo, Let's Celebrate! We finished filling the big wood shed today. Completely full. Now we have two wood sheds full to the brim with wood cut, split, stacked and (hopefully) drying for this winter. It took us about one full month longer to accomplish this task than we had estimated it would. It wasn't that we didn't keep working on it. Too many days of rain interfered with our efforts. But now (whew! It's done, and we can relax a bit on that count. The red cabbages are slower...

A Home Grown Journal: November 2014
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 28, 2014. The Day After The Day Before. I need to hire a blog post editor.). Anyone else getting really irritated with all the Black Friday hype on the Internet and in local papers? It bugs me that it all exemplifies and amplifies the materialistic spend! Society we live in. I remember the times years ago when there were no sales on anything (! Time to give some assistance to Papa Pea who is bringing wood up to the wood box on the porch. Then to fill the two wood holding racks next t...

A Home Grown Journal: Perfect Weather for Sleeping - Not Good in May!
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2015/05/perfect-weather-for-sleeping-not-good.html
Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Perfect Weather for Sleeping - Not Good in May! We can safely say the forest fire danger of the past several weeks is gone. We've been having successive days of gray, gloomy skies and plenty of rain. Large puddles are standing everywhere outside. This morning the temperature was 37 degrees . . . with snowflakes falling. Good gardening weather does not come early to the north woods. This spring weather (ha! Well, anyway, this weather is good for something. Sleeping! It's so exceptio...

A Home Grown Journal: August 2014
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 29, 2014. Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About . . . A couple of days ago (or maybe it was many days ago, because you know how time flies when you're spending quality time in the kitchen with boat loads of fresh produce . . . day after day after day), Kristina at Pioneer Woman at Heart. Asked me if I would explain how I planted, harvested and preserved my shell peas. However, putting these thoughts of my inadequacies aside, let's talk peas. Supposedly it's not absolutely necessary to p...

A Home Grown Journal: Having The Mumps
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2015/05/having-mumps.html
Saturday, May 9, 2015. I don't know what in the world made me think of it today, but when I was in eighth grade I had the mumps. It spread like wildfire through my class that year so I wasn't the only one to suffer. But, oh my, suffer I did. It's no wonder so many of us were out of school with the mumps. A person who contracts the virus is contagious for six days before symptoms start to show and nine days after they start. What are the symptoms? Made me one very unhappy camper. I'm sure there are thousa...

A Home Grown Journal: Happy Mother's Day to Me!
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2015/05/happy-mothers-day-to-me.html
Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Happy Mother's Day to Me! Yep, that's the way things have been going around here for about the past week or so. The hurrier I go, the behinder I get. Belated that I may be, I wanted to post a picture of my daughter's Mother's Day gift to me. Can you see what it is? Nope, nothing to do with the two bags hanging on the inside of my quilt room door. She made me a switch plate cover especially designed for my quilt room! Pretty cool, huh? I sure think so. Oh no not snow! That is a very...

A Home Grown Journal: Sunshine and Sore Muscles
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2015/05/sunshine-and-sore-muscles.html
Thursday, May 21, 2015. Sunshine and Sore Muscles. We've been blessed with sunshine the last couple of days. The temperature during the day is still staying only in the high 40s or low 50s, but the wonderful sunshine makes all the difference in the world. For a long time now, I've been studiously trying to avoid a rather large rock in the Upper Garden which lurks not far under the soil. Today Papa Pea decided it had to go, and he was going to dig it out. Got 50 of the strawberry plants settled in their n...

A Home Grown Journal: April 2015
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 27, 2015. Free Rent - Tenant Wanted. Every now and then a wood duck will land on our pond, but s/he never stays long and sightings are few and far between. Papa Pea has talked for a long time about building a wood duck nest box in the hopes of getting a female to take up residence and raise a brood of quackers . . . except wood ducks "whistle" rather than "quack.". Yesterday the nest box was finished and ready to mount. Friday, April 24, 2015. Just Make A Decision! Admittedly, I do. Here we...

A Home Grown Journal: September 2014
http://ahomegrownjournal.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 30, 2014. I have nothing new (let alone earth-shattering) to report, but maybe that's an indication of the fact that all is well and normal. A half sunny, half overcast day forecasted so as soon as the dew dries up a little more, I'm going to go outside and do what needs to be done. The red impatiens I planted in the window boxes this year were lush and lovely. Now? I'll close with this picture of our granddog, Tucker, living his hard life. Nuthin' better than an afternoon nap in t...

Hope, Joy and Faith Farm
It's just a small farm, named after our three beautiful daughters. Along with working full-time at our local city office, I sell a few eggs, produce and do odd jobs such as commission sales, e-bay sales and so on. My life is a learning experience, full of frugal ideas, staying sober, being creative, emotional ups and downs, sharing and good times. Other stuff about the farm and your's truly! Tuesday, March 14, 2017. I am breaking out of mine. Links to this post. Friday, March 3, 2017. No one wants it.

Patient 608A by Michelle Chen. May 6, 2015. This girl is good! Mount Valdis. When I first heard the name it sounded like a real nice place to be. I imagined a mountain shrouded with mist surrounded by swarms of gorillas and so many colorful birds and log cabins that they’d stack up, one on top of the other, and just about make everybody who went there burst into tears. How Can You Cope With Stress? May 6, 2015. May 6, 2015. Ill-health, demands from work, family crises and sometimes just the day-to-day hu...

My Joyful Journey
My life is full of ups and downs, highs and lows. Sometimes I stumble and fall, other times I soar on eagle's wings. But no matter what, I try to remember this life is just a journey. A journey that ends in Glory. Wednesday, May 21, 2014. The Most Important Thing. My dad never "made it big" by the world's standards. He never even owned his own home. His kids wore lots of hand-me-downs, and helping me with college tuition was not a possibility for him. Did he work hard? Monday, December 17, 2012. Give Me ...
