What is an accumulator? Accumulator is hydraulic device that stores the pressure energy of liquid (oil, water, etc.) by converting it into pressure energy of gas (nitrogen gas). Using a car as an analogy, an accumulator would correspond to the battery. Liquids have characteristic that their volume will not change by pressurizing. (Incompressible fluid). On the other hand, gases have characteristic that their volume will change by pressurizing. (Compressible fluid).
