Thursday, July 7, 2011. Drawing of a pelvis. I've been experimenting with red and white chalk on toned paper as a means to draw. Due to the grain of the pencil you can't really render very well so things become somewhat less academic but without resorting to a technique or deliberate style. Theres a peculiar tension between the directional energy of the two characters movement and the rather lax leash connecting them. Seems to say something about their relationship but its left to the viewer to determine what. The arcane essence is confirmed by the gate and barbed wire above. even by the cast shadows dividing their relationship. Fairly powerful undercurrent, even if Im way off base here.

This weekend at SFUAD:. Oldie but a goodie. Here's an old life drawing I ran across from my student days. It felt sooooooooo good to get a nice drawing back then (still does, but practice makes the good ones come on a more predictable schedule now.). Look I even did a little value thumbnail before I began (what a good student). :). Digital tips and tricks. Light and Dark: Notan. Light and shadow: Chiaroscuro. Are art creation techniques which involve re-combing found materials into assets for the entertainment industry. Kit bashing was huge when the practical effects industry still ruled the world of science fiction film. Examples abound in Star-Wars episodes 4-6. Has been mostly but not entirely done away with by 3D/CG model making.but P hoto-bashing. Mostly modern examples of kit-bashing:. And the greatest examples of all?
