Pork and Lesser Matters. Cricket, food, and music no one cares for. June 26, 2008 in General. I would say that Tim and I are not very technologically savvy. But, so much is happening in our lives and I want to remember it all. So, I’ve basically coerced my erudite and well spoken husband into writing for a blog about nothing in particular. Here are some topics that will most surely be visited:. Economics/Libertarianism/Politics/PLEASE DO NOT MENTION THE FARM BILL. Cricket and the NBA. You are commenting ...

Trial and Error? | Pork and Lesser Matters

Pork and Lesser Matters. Cricket, food, and music no one cares for. August 7, 2008 in General. I have my first trial tomorrow so wish me luck. Kelly and Richard’s party coincides quite nicely with this event. Win or lose, I will have a bracing drink waiting for me at home. On a vaguely related note, here is a picture of the justices of the Canadian Supreme Court. Does it soften the blow if the judge who convicts you is dressed like Santa Claus? Pork and Lesser Matters. Cricket, food, and music no one cares for. August 13, 2008 in General. Also, Tim won his first case! But Tim decided it was much more suited to describe fat rolls. I share your fears of fatness; since my arrival in Richmond and entrance into domestic bliss, I have packed on a walloping 10-15 pounds! Perhaps we should pick up handball?

nobody sasses a girl in glasses: Regional differences in breaking records
http://foureyedgremlin.blogspot.com/2015/07/regional-differences-in-breaking-records.html
Sunday, July 19, 2015. Regional differences in breaking records. Sayeth the San Diego Union-Tribune. San Diego has broken just about every record it has for July," said Roger Pierce, a National Weather Service forecaster. "It was a pretty amazing weekend.". And what exactly is meant by "pretty amazing" in San Diego? Posted by Miss Self-Important. Yay for rain, though, right? The constant downpours have abated a bit here, so win-win. nobody sasses a girl in glasses: The greatest alumni note of all time
http://foureyedgremlin.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-greatest-alumni-note-of-all-time.html
Saturday, July 25, 2015. The greatest alumni note of all time. I've mentioned in the past. Of experience in the field of alumni-note reading is the best alumni note I have ever seen, composed by someone who appears not to have even graduated from Chicago:. A contemporary Tellus the Athenian, altered by modernity but not beyond recognition. Posted by Miss Self-Important. Virgil T. Morant. Http:/ www.axpow.org/files/bulletins/bullcur.pdf. I was also fascinated to see this New York Times. Arts and Letters D...

nobody sasses a girl in glasses: Eliot, Daniela Deronda
http://foureyedgremlin.blogspot.com/2015/07/eliot-daniela-deronda.html
Saturday, July 04, 2015. Eliot, Daniela Deronda. The Toast once summarized all English novels. With the phrase "fraught seating arrangements," which is a very accurate description of large parts of this book (as also of every book by Henry James, and a lot of Jane Austen, especially Mansfield Park. Which is may be the epitome of her virtue revealed through extremely subtle gestures that only someone of extraordinary sensitivity could notice). But the precise nothingness that it showed revealed everything.

nobody sasses a girl in glasses: Academic conferences at tropical resorts, a follow-up
http://foureyedgremlin.blogspot.com/2015/05/academic-conferences-at-tropical.html
Saturday, May 02, 2015. Academic conferences at tropical resorts, a follow-up. This post follows the previous entirely by coincidence, not because I am constantly thinking about conferences. But remember that, last spring, I proposed the brilliant idea. That academic conferences should be held at all-inclusive tropical resorts? Well, this weekend, an NYT essay vindicates my suggestion. nobody sasses a girl in glasses: Department of Bad Ideas: Academic conferences should be held at all-inclusive tropical resorts

Sunday, May 18, 2014. Department of Bad Ideas: Academic conferences should be held at all-inclusive tropical resorts. You can't really tell from the photo, but there is an artificial waterfall between me and the view. Cabo's beaches are mostly not swimmable, which makes me wonder how it became such a destination for tourists. I (once again) wish I knew how to fish so I could catch marlins though. Marlins! Like the Old Man and the Sea! Isn't there some remedy for this inefficiency? Jacob T. Levy. Theres o...

Ideas Hatched: September 2004

Ideas Hatched is dedicated to the proposition that you are more politically conservative than you think you are, and I mean to prove it. Thursday, September 30, 2004. Why I Read Non-Fiction. Which I thought was easy to do once she had mentioned that her thesis dealt with Thomas Hardy. Aha! I had read Hardy's. My mistake was to relay to her that I didn't see what was so controversial about the book - I read it - seemed pretty straightforward to me. Hey, what can skipping one page cost you? Here was the in...
