"Skye? Not remote enough!" - a day trip to the Outer Hebrides - Beating the Humdrum

http://www.beatingthehumdrum.com/skye-not-remote-enough-north-uist-outer-hebrides

In search of the little things that make life special. 8221; – a day trip to the Outer Hebrides. I found my ideal spot in a “field” of cows and sheep – although on Skye, a field is more a vague chunk of undulating land enclosed by cliffs than the rectangular, hedgerowed affairs we know as fields down in southern England. One cute little waterfall just upstream from my tent…. I was keen to showcase my tent for scale, as well – has it worked out? You tell me…. Not quite your average Instagram food photo!

How not to take a train in India | Beating the Humdrum

https://beatingthehumdrum.wordpress.com/2015/01/12/train-india-varanasi-agra-taj-mahal

In search of the little things that make life extraordinary. How not to take a train in India. January 12, 2015. January 13, 2015. After three weeks in the Himalayas. Fortunately, our hotel proved to be a haven of calm overlooking the river Ganges. After navigating Varanasi’s back alleys because our taxi from the airport was far too big to fit, we found some much needed respite watching the sunset over the mighty river, the far bank shrouded in haze (or smog…). And jump he did – at the last second&...

Beating the Humdrum | In search of the little things that make life extraordinary | Page 2

https://beatingthehumdrum.wordpress.com/page/2

In search of the little things that make life extraordinary. August 18, 2014. Despite having been to Budapest countless times to visit my grandparents, I’ve somehow never had the chance to explore much on my own. Here is a remarkable city, not at all unlike a slightly more run down, faded-glamour version of Vienna, and with a big dose of eastern-bloc directness and charm. A novel method of child transport? Hungary’s first permanent bridge across the mighty river Danube. From about a fifth of the way up, ...

Memory Lane: Busan, Korea | Beating the Humdrum

https://beatingthehumdrum.wordpress.com/2013/12/15/memory-lane-busan-korea

In search of the little things that make life extraordinary. Memory Lane: Busan, Korea. December 15, 2013. November 5, 2014. It’s been a very long time coming, but for the sake of completeness, and for my own peace of mind, I cannot help but write a little post or two about my time in Korea. A man who enjoys his fry-up – pictured here in an “Irish Pub”, Korean style. Deokcheon – lights and cartoon characters as characteristic for Korea. The tube terminal at Shinsegae Department Store. This was a spectacu...

The Climb | Beating the Humdrum

https://beatingthehumdrum.wordpress.com/2012/12/07/the-climb

In search of the little things that make life extraordinary. December 7, 2012. October 31, 2014. This will be the last post about Nepal – and this justifies a few more mountain pictures! Steve looking thoroughly bored of the scenery at High Camp. The lower reaches of Island Peak Glacier, with crampon point at its bottom; the way the slope falls away beyond gives some idea of how steep the climb up to here was. Am I doing here , which stands to reason given the extenuating factors:. And an obligatory summ...
