I said it was my mother". Newspaper reporter, even one in the South, reported on Jeff Davis cowardice. Davis then organized a campaign, for the rest of his life, to smear such newspaper reports. This is from Varina's book written after Davis died.she did not try to embarrass him here, either. Let's look at that, too.
