I finished two pen and ink drawings this last week despite being distracted by a missing cat. My very old cat got out when I wasn't paying attention properly. Perhaps I did the drawing so efficiently as a distraction to keep from worrying about the cat. He got home on Friday night but he had to be rescued from a high wall in the dark. Posted by Jen Kirby.

It is many years since I last did a portrait in pastel. But pastels have always been my favourite medium. I had to stop working in pastels because I had trouble with my hand and I kept dropping them. I have been finishing a piece of furniture that I built, and tools and other things are still sitting on top of the scanner. I did this Conté of a mare's eye on Canson Mi Teintes paper for my own pleasure. Although one thinks of Conté as being a drawing medium, I think of myself as painting with it. I finished the painting of the bronze cat at last. I am pleased with how well I succeeded with the tiger's eye on the left using glazes. The Connemara marble is satisfactorily chunky using a pointillist technique in shades of grey over a green glaze. I don't know what the other crystals are. Posted by Jen Kirby.

Updates on the art I am currently working on, with some information about techniques and materials. Jen Kirby, Portraitist. Friday, 1 April 2016. I have been making a few changes to my studio space. The changes became necessary when the rescued cat recovered and became more active and demanding of my attention. He soon learned that the certain way to my attention was to sit on my painting. The only solution was to find a table to take upstairs to hold my drawing slope. Posted by Jen Kirby.
