The Healthy Lawyer: August 2009
http://healthylawyer.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 26, 2009. Where have the last 2 weeks gone? I am still working away at the document review job and trying to balance working that job up to 10 hours a day with job searching, working my 2nd job, keeping up with the house, etc . . . I have still been on Twitter, because I can easily do that on my blackberry while I'm at work. Other internet use is a little off limits for me! I bought her Almond Coconut Macaroons. Look how cute she package them up! Once I find a free day, I hope to revamp...
Sasayama Mama: September 2010
http://sasayamamama.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
September 28, 2010. See those stinky strands? That's what I was going for. I took it out after about 16 hours fermenting. Probably could have kept it in a bit longer but it was fine. Stirred up with some soy sauce, wasabi, sesame seeds, and scallion over rice it was a pretty good breakfast. The white stuff is the natto bacteria. I was a little worried last night when Midori was walking around the big room looking for where the dog pooped. But it was just the natto. Links to this post. Which suited me jus...
Sasayama Mama: February 2011
http://sasayamamama.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
February 19, 2011. I'm feeling inspired today. I washed diapers, planted lots of seeds with my Mom (she is my #1 gardening partner) and Mio, made a really great lunch with Midori (ma-bo tofu, spinach with sesame sauce, miso soup, daikon pickles, and brown rice). And I've been reading my friend Nick's awesome blog. About climate change, which in turn got me started reading Gandhi. Climate change is scary, isn't it? Links to this post. February 1, 2011. I have been making lard. Links to this post. Dehydrat...
Sasayama Mama: sansai primer part 1: yomogi and tsukushi
http://sasayamamama.blogspot.com/2011/04/sansai-primer-part-1-yomogi-and.html
April 6, 2011. Sansai primer part 1: yomogi and tsukushi. On the left, the mushroomy looking things are tsukushi,. And the feathery stuff on the right is sugina. We're finally getting warm days here, so it's been nice walking around gathering wild herbs, known as sansai. Yesterday I gathered some yomogi. Glutinous rice paste) and then wrapped it them around balls of shiro-an. Sweetened white adzuki bean paste). It's a nice spring sweet to eat with matcha. I also gathered a little bit of tsukushi,. Which ...
Sasayama Mama: April 2011
http://sasayamamama.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
April 19, 2011. I got so excited I hopped around whooping and hollering in my backyard garden! Almost as excited as Mio swinging around on the akebi. Poking through the thick, leafy winter mulch they were practically camouflaged. Now two weeks later they are about a foot tall already. One year down, two to go until we can get a decent harvest. We've got a few more years before we'll get to taste it, but already it's looking much stronger and bigger than the "2nd year" seedlings they're selling at the sto...
Sasayama Mama
http://sasayamamama.blogspot.com/2011/02/i-have-been-making-lard.html
February 1, 2011. I have been making lard. I know, it's gross. It fills the house with the smell of melting animals. It feels healthy to be eating local fat, and knowing that the wild boar's diet was acorns, bamboo shoots, mushrooms and grubs means it's healthy meat. I wouldn't be too excited about eating lard made from a pig raised in a factory farm or tallow from cows fed corn instead of grass. And commercial lard is usually hydrogenated, so homemade is the way to go. February 06, 2011. Id be more of a...
Sasayama Mama: asparagus from seed
http://sasayamamama.blogspot.com/2010/10/asparagus-from-seed.html
October 1, 2010. When I was looking into planting asparagus in the spring I was a bit discouraged from what I found on the internet. Most people grow from crowns, buy seedlings, or do their own starter plants in pots. Why did I find no one direct seeding? We debated what to do in the area. Perhaps let it settle a bit and plant something in the fall or wait a month and put in some summer veggies. When I mentioned planting asparagus from seed, the WWOOFer said "you can't, they will DIE! October 02, 2010.
Sasayama Mama: not quite Ann McIver's apple chips
http://sasayamamama.blogspot.com/2011/01/not-quite-ann-mcivers-apple-chips.html
January 3, 2011. Not quite Ann McIver's apple chips. For some reason the apples retain their shape and a bit of their texture, so they're not mushy like canned apples. Goes great spooned onto toast or stirred into yogurt along with a little bit of the "honey". Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Hunter Angler Gardener Cook. Ken Albala's Food Rant. Joe and Betty's Adventures
Joe and Betty's Adventures. Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Beautiful Silver Falls State Park near Silverton, Oregon. Joe's Birthday choice was to take the back roads to Silver Falls State Park near Silverton Oregon. We love taking the back roads to anywhere. It was interesting to me to see all the black fields. Controlled burning of these fields, helps prepare the fields for the next crop. Although the wheat has. Been cut, these fields remind me of "Amber Waves Of Grain". Have a great week. This is one of t...
