Can a pizza arrive at your house faster than an ambulance. Do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back counter to get their prescriptions, while healthy people can buy their cigarettes at the front. Do people order double cheeseburgers large fries and a Diet Coke. Do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters. Do we leave our cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage. Do they have drive-up ATM's with Braille lettering.

Can you cry under water? How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered? If money doesn't grow on trees then why do banks have branches? Since bread is square, then why is sandwich meat round? Why do you have to "put your two cents in". . but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to? Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity? What disease did cured ham actually have?

The author tried to live one week without plastic. Not an easy task, but it is possible. We may not be able to eliminate all use of plastic, but at least we can make a significant impact. Rants From the Middle of the Road. Tuesday, December 22, 2009. No bats in the belfry. There was an article in today's Chicago Tribune that there has been a record die-off of bats. Is this yet another sign that mother nature has taken ill? Is this fungus caused by global warming? Is it an invasive species brought from somewhere else? We don't know. Rants From the Middle of the Road. Saturday, February 27, 2010. How marketing and greed created a wasteful lazy society. I was just watching a commercial for the Swiffer Wet Jet which made me think about a topic that's been festering for quite some time. That topic is how wasteful and lazy the average American has become. As an example, the Swiffer Wet Jet advertises how instead of using a sponge that can get filled with germs you start with a clean pad every time. Isn't this wasteful?

The CTA is still in crisis mode due to state politicians still unable to come up with a plan to properly fund public transportation. Yet as reported by the Chicago Tribune last week, that didn't stop them from discussing a possible purchase of Wrigley Field.
