Journals from Escape To. Saturday, August 28, 2010. Kenai Fjords National Park. August 25: We spent the day on the Major Marine,s Tour of Kenai Fjords National Park. We walked from our campsite to the loading dock. A ranger was on board and pointed out specific points of interest as well as a commentary on the area. Journals from Escape To. Sunday, August 22, 2010. On down the Richerdson Highway. August 20: Richardson Highway. We were up and on the road early and arrived at Worthington Glacier before 8:00. We were the only ones there. Our next stop was Thompson Pass. This was one of the highlights of the day. Parked along the side of the road and walked up a trail and across the tundra. The clouds were below us and the mountains with snow and blue sky were all around us. We are above the clouds.

I am also reading though journals of other's trips to Alaska. Many of the journals I have found are from people who got to spend MONTHS up there, but it's still good to read through to see what there is to do. We plan on getting together soon with some friends of ours that go up and work at Denali in the summers. I am sure they have lots of good advice. We are in the midst of our maiden voyage with BAHM. We are staying at a campground about 5 miles from home. It's close to the freeway, but I am amazed by how peaceful it is. Here is our rig aka BAMH (big ass motor home). It's a 1994 Winnebago Vectra. It's a diesel-pusher. It's OLD but in pretty good shape. We had good wifi last night, but we swam, ate ice cream, and socialized. Right now we are about 40% across SD. If we push it we can be home tomorrow night. We'll see how the next few hours go and decide. It's really HOT out so we really don't want to stop til it's cooler. We see rain just to the north, but we this we might miss it. Bummer! Goshit's been a while since I posted. Let me catch you up. First off, after calculating the price we have decided that we will not be going on the Alaska Marine Highway at all. It is going to cost us roughly $8000. YES $8K! That is just too much! I was bummed at first, but now I am ok with it. There is still so much to see and do. Things are cruising along. Eric has been doing lots of prepping and planning. The trip is just over 2 months away and this is what has been accomplished. RV fixes: The hydraulic jacks and the fridge have been fixed. The RV dealer told us that we would need a new fridge $1500 installation, but Eric did some research and found the part we need online for $500 and his dad got it installed.
